Dry and flaky lips

I know I probably don't drink enough water...

But what else can I do to improve the state of my lips? I pop a bit of vaseline of when I remember but it's not really cutting it. Feels like they need a good exfoliation!

Any tips?

Vaseline can dry them out more. Have you tried normal moisturiser? I find Aveeno good, just the hand or body lotion.

Laneige Lip Sleep Mask has done wonders for my dry lips. It sounds like a total gimmick, but it honestly works. Apply at night and I can still feel it on my lips in the morning

A lip scrub is really useful too. I get a cheapo one from Barry M. Use it gently every couple of days

Vaseline is rubbish. Nuxe lip balm is very good, or if course you can use the Laneige mask in the day too

Doesn't that taste horrible though?

I had no idea these products existed! Lip masks, lip scrubs.... no wonder everyone else has lovely lips!

I'm not very beautified as you can tell!

Don't lick it? If you're licking your lips a lot that might explain why they're so dry. If I have unusually dry lips I slick a light layer of Aveeno on and it's sunk in within a minute or two. I don't see the need for lip masks etc but then maybe that's because my lips aren't dry. You can also exfoliate them with a soft toothbrush.

It's said alot here, but Lansinoh nipple cream that is made of pure lanolin is the best ever for this.
Lanolips is very similar for there lanolin products although they have others that are also very good. The latter has more of a beauty image rather than 'baby'.
Lansinoh also has a smaller product marketed for lips (also in a purple tube) but it is the exact same as the nipple cream, they just want to reach a different type of person.
Dr. Lipp is also very similar.

Blistex is the bees knees but currently unavailable anywhere for some mysterious reason.

I know when my lips are like this, it’s usually because I’ve been dehydrated. Are you drinking enough water?

Angelchick1971 · 03/04/2025 15:46

Try this. Cured mine in 24 hrs. Apply every 30 mins during the day. I was a great lip balm user but this is my new go to 😊

I also love Laneige but really it sounds like you need more water OP.

Came on here to say Lansinoh. It is wonderful for lips. Not a joy to put on as sticky and waterproof. I use it from time to time as a lip mask at night and by morning I am healed.
I tried Lanolips but didn't find it as effective - still better than most lip products though (Eve Lom I am looking at you)

Nuxe Rêve de miel is good and at least used to be sold at M&S.

AngryLikeHades · 04/04/2025 14:15

The lemon Lanolips is said to be very good for lips that are dry and need to be exfoliated.
Having said that, I'd gently exfoliate them beforehand using a bit of sugar if you haven't got a product.

Make yourself a nice toner with rose water and glycerine and spray your face and lips routinely, no point putting Vaseline on bone dry lips!
