What is this clothing item called?

Hi Style and Beauty experts 😊

I need something like this for a wedding guest outfit (not lace or bridal but the shape)… what would you call this and has anyone seen a nice one which I could use with the attached dress.

It’s main purpose is to enable modest breastfeeding at a wedding.

Could be any fabric really, just needs to look appropriately dressed up and obviously not see through.

Thank you ☺️

Is it a pelmet, or is that just for curtains?

SkaneTos · 25/03/2025 23:58

Like a bolero, but closed in the front?

Bolero or a short cape

Hoydenish · 26/03/2025 00:01

Capelet I think?

Lavenderandbrown · 26/03/2025 00:06

A shrug?

Time40 · 26/03/2025 00:07

I think a capelet, too.

Yes closed in the front.

Ok bolero capelet I will search for!

Anyone seen one of these anywhere recently?

Ooo ok ended up on Etsy. Slightly different and not very ‘spring black tie’ but at least it does the job if I can’t find anything more glam.

Would have to pick a colour and take a gamble though 😬

What do you think? Too wintery? Too casual?

That's lovely OP, not wintery, not casual and I'd venture even quite glam - though possibly less so with a baby clamped to your bosom 😄😊

Tbrh · 26/03/2025 01:03

If you're just using while you BF, you could just use a muslin? Else, you'd probably need a poncho to cover baby, a cape won't do much

TheSquareMile · 26/03/2025 01:03

This might sound a bit old-fashioned, but could you wear a soft cashmere shawl in a colour matching your dress? You would probably find it much easier to manoeuvre.

Something like this one (just as an example).

Yes totally open to any suggestions!

Although my god at the price of these 😅 I am not sure I can bring myself to spend that much on essentially a scarf 😂

Although the plus here is I am assuming these are more widely available from normal stores.

Just get a pashmina. They come in every colour

Yes, something like this, it will be much more versatile, cheaper and give you more coverage

ShawlCardiCape · 26/03/2025 14:44

Thanks both. Struggling to find one which isn’t scarf like with fringe tassels. That seems too Bohemian casual although I do agree with the premise. I just need a square of fabric. Maybe I should sew my own 😂

@ShawlCardiCape

At which time of year will the wedding be, OP?

Do you already have a dress?

Yiayoula · 26/03/2025 15:37

Can’t do the link, OP, but Amazon have this in a variety of colours .
Not as nice as the Etsy one, but might it be suitable ?

I think you need a scarf/shawl, no need for it to be cashmere and you'd only use it while feeding or if you needed it for warmth.

The other options here are nice enough, but I don't think will be long enough for modest breast feeding.

Or honestly just use a muslin.

minnienono · 26/03/2025 15:51

I used a pashmina when I was breastfeeding with a brooch to fix it where I wanted it. Unfortunately dd2 especially wasn’t impressed by being covered and pushed it out of the way, luckily I’m hard to embarrass Grin

carrotsandtomatoes · 26/03/2025 16:56

Do you want it to be something you wear all day or something you pop on to breastfeed.

if it’s wear all day then it needs to be thought of in terms of your whole outfit. Not something random stuck over the top. If it’s something you pop on for BFing then you have more flexibility in terms of style but you would want to think carefully if you want a poncho style as you’ll be pulling over your head/hair all day and unless ot has a really wide neck you could mess up your hair and makeup

Yes open to just wearing it when breastfeeding.

DappledThings · 26/03/2025 17:01

Do you actively want to have an extra cover or just feel you have to? I was breastfeeding at my brother's wedding. I picked a top and skirt instead of a dress so I could lift it up for access but it didn't occur to me to buy an extra layer.

If you usually cover up id just use whatever you usually use.

HiGunny · 26/03/2025 17:32

If it's just while breastfeeding I had something like one of these cover ups. It clipped around the neck so didn't mess up my hair and it didn't fall off like a muslin if DS was wriggly.

Mine was plain black so not as obvious
