Doc Martens

Hi! I'm on the other side of 40.. I love the look of the Chesney Doc Martens. They are in the sale. I would love to wear them with skinny jeans or maybe black tights and a skirt. I don't know..I'm just under 5 foot 4. Am I too old and am I too short?

Does anyone else have them? Do they hurt your heels?. Everyone in work wears them but bit worried I'm too old and too short and will make my legs look short and chunky. I'm a size 8 but although i walk everywhere, i still have pudgy legs, cover them up in leggings, black tights or jeans lol. I'll try them on when I get them.. so excited but just thought I'd ask as I don't want to look daft. I'm not very fashionable and seem to have lost my way fashion wise.
I used to love the rock chick look but toned it down after 35. Any advice appreciated.

I have them in my basket, very tempted to order them but I'm not a big heels person, which i why i havent ordered just yet, and I have quite a few pairs of dm boots already so don't actually need them.
I think they are fab and such a great price atm! I'm 42. My style is quite casual and a lil grungy/rock(very rock when going on a night out less so doing the school run 😄)

Why on earth would your age matter?!

If you like them, if they fit, if you can afford them - then go for it!

RedCatBlueCatYellowCat · 23/03/2025 21:10

Not a fan of those ones in particular, but I am in my 50s and wear DMs. With mini skirts, dresses, jeans whatever I want.

LunaTheCat · 23/03/2025 21:15

I bought my first pair at 57.
i love them!
I bought a British made classical 3 hole lace up in black… although I would love some pink ones.
Not not hard to wear in.
I wear them with dresses during winter.

Nice! I love the rock chick look but haven't looked rock chick in ages. I love rock music and have toned my look down so much..

Flowerpower70 · 23/03/2025 21:22

Just adding that I am also short, 5'2" and size 8 so I definitely don't see height or size as a barrier to DMs!

I had stopped for a while as thought I had to dress more mumsy if that makes sense. My mum used to comment on my clothing choices and would remind me i was a married mother of 3 and not a young one anymore 🙄😂
But in the last few years I've decided to dress how I want again.
Day to day I usually wear jeans, trainers/dm boots, graphic/band tee, jumper/sweatshirt. But put more effort in if going out(the rare time it happens).
I hope you love them when they arrive!

I am so excited and want to feel more me.. lasses at work wear them they are a bit younger than me and all 5ft and 8 and above.. so teasingly call me short.. eye roll..

Oh go for them, never mind the girls at work! I've similar styled boots, not Docs, and I'm on the wrong side of 60!! My latest pair are bubble gum pink! Don't ever stop being you! x

Sunshineandrainbow · 29/03/2025 08:36

Did you get them @Flowerpower70 , I went to the DM shop this week for the first time and got some Mary Jane for work. I really love them but feel a bit scared to wear them as they are so expensive and so perfect. I have never spent that much on shoes.

Sharktoothgirl · 29/03/2025 08:48

Go for it! A particular style of boots doesn’t have an age limit or a minimum height requirement.
We’re all allowed to wear things that make us happy. No one else is going to notice or care whether they flatter your leg shape or not.

MsWhippy10 · 29/03/2025 09:01

I’m 5’3” size 14/16 and 51 years old. Ive worn my doc boots all winter and will continue to do so until my doc marten sandals come out! Go for it, they’re great.

Talisin · 29/03/2025 09:04

I’m on the shadier side of 50 and have the Chesneys. They look great, they don’t feel particularly high and I often get people expressing boot envy when I wear them. I find them slightly less wide fitting than their flatter boots which is my only real issue with them.

daffodilandtulip · 29/03/2025 09:10

I feel sad that you felt you had to tone down your rock chick at 35.

I'm 45 and also short. I wear docs all year round - boots in the winter, sandals in the summer; with maybe just a few in between days in vans.
