wedding trouser outfit

Calling the most experienced stylish shoppers of the internet, please help me
I'm going to a wedding in 2 weeks, stupidly disorganised..
Skirts and dresses are out due to medical compression socks and trainers due to multiple health problems. Can't go to shops due to chronic fatigue syndrome, would totally floor me to go up and down the high street. I have also have put on a lot of weight since becoming unwell and nothing I have previously worn to posh dos fits. Not usually self conscious day to day, but suddenly I am now that I have to get dressed up!!
Ideally whatever I buy will have lots of re-wearing potential but I never go to formal events and work from home so separates would be best then maybe I could use for ocasional date nights or rare meetings.
I live in wide leg trousers and I think this suits my shape. I tend to wear neutrals, navy no black, coral, pink, khaki green, some yellows – autumn/spring colouring. Jeans, cosy jumper, silk head scarf and interesting gold jewellery is the usual vibe, I’m 43 and blonde.

Was thinking of a trouser suit with a silky/ lacey top underneath, or a 'co-ord' with a blazer on top. Either would have to be full length because of the ugly trainers and socks. And a good smattering of gold and maybe a fascinator to bling it up and make it more ‘wedding’. Or maybe a fascinator is a totally awful idea, I’m not at all sure on this…
I have seen a couple of nice co-ords in silky material , wide leg trousers with matching top - but all sold out in my size - as Id guess pretty flattering for bigger sizes. I’m not averse to patterns but not huge really bold patterns. I’ve also seen a couple of jumpsuits I like, but I feel these will have less opportunity to wear them again.

this last one probably way too sparkly – I'm only actually going to the daytime bit of the wedding as I couldn’t manage the whole event and am going home early ..

I just had an M&S navy linen trouser suit delivered , the jacket is nice but the trousers less so, unfortunately it would seem I am now a size 20 on the bottom and 18 on top. Even if they did fit, the whole thing is v underwhelming and a bit ‘worky’. My 10 year old fashionista daughter says a stone/ pale coloured suit like this one from Evans would be better but I fear this would never be worn again.. (2 children, 2 dogs, muddy lifestyle)

I might order this anyway as its quite a good price..
I was wondering if anyone could point me to a less obvious brand I thnk Ive looked at most of the obvious high street ones – next, m&s, Mint Velvet, Zara, John Lewis, Lindex, La Redoute.have only just started trawling Boden but have gone off them in recent years. Struggling to tell what the fabric is like! Maybe something flowy would be nice? But I don’t want to look too out of touch and middle aged either.
Sorry such a fusspot. Should have started this months ago..

Please help me if you can xx

How about …

This Aligne waistcoat

with the matching trousers

And you could choose a jacket to go over.

ANagsHead · 22/03/2025 20:27

Don’t know if this + matching trousers would appeal:

Marina Rinaldi co-ords

What’s your budget limit? They have a great olive / khaki top and trousers that could be worn separately or together for years - very plain and horribly expensive, but …

(Just noticed that comes in other colours too.)

Escapetothecountryplease · 22/03/2025 20:59

Thank you! The aligne outfit is too white I think , never heard of the brand though.
not sure on the marina R one, bit too plain maybe? I don’t mind spending probably £200 tops for some amazing, ideally less!

I know you don't want this colour, although I love it, and it's really very expensive but I thought it was a good 'look' that maybe you could copy?

I like the wide legs, with the undone pussy bow blouse and cropped jacket - the model is also wearing it with flats like trainers. I also like the all one colour, it looks very occasion wear.

The @Rina66 beautiful! I’m afraid the colour is completely not me. Everyone would wonder who on earth was this bold bright elegant being 😆
plus waayy too expensive

I’ve spent the last two hours trawling Debenhams website which I never would’ve thought to look at but still loads of choice on there. so frustrating that every time you look at an item the search filters disappear and you have to start from scratch again.
plus I’ve noticed that most websites don’t show matching items together 🙄 sometimes don’t even photograph the matching trousers with their jacket so it takes some detective work to actually find the match outfit. Oh my head hurts..

Have ordered on PayPal ‘later’ about £500 worth of different suits to arrive tomorrow they have a couple of plus size brands that might work. So much Cheaper!! ☺️

also looking at Jaki silky trousers and tops with petals a more structured jacket or even a cardi on top because the material lifts it into ‘posh’ so maybe the shape doesn’t have to. really lovely, looks comfy and sexy. But this would be top budget so I’ll try the cheaper stuff first
