Summer Work Clothes

Starting new job… smart casual dress code. Fine for cooler days - smart trousers and nice jumper/cardigan, but what on earth do I wear when it warms up?

The same smart trousers with short sleeved tops? I wear skirts or dresses in the summer without tights, although summer work shoes can be a pain because I don't think open-toed sandals are very professional. I tend to wear flats with those annoying footsie socks, although maybe I should just get thin insoles because the footsie socks fall off anyway. I do stick to knee length skirts or below, because a) bare thighs aren't very professional and b) no one needs to see my thighs anyway. I'd wear a shorter skirt with tights but not without, so I stick to wearing them in winter.

I also have some lovely thin wide-legged trousers, which I wore on repeat all summer last year. Two pairs are from H&M and one pair are M&S linen stripy trousers. I wore them with black vests under an open black linen shirt and black ballet pumps.

Thank you so much - I’m afraid to admit that I hadn’t thought about dresses!

I have some linen/ linen blend items for warmer days -

Cider linen blend skirt

I'll probably wear these with short sleeve cardigans.

What sort of budget do you have in mind, @MêmePasPeur?

You could probably find enough to start you off at a combination of

Uniqlo

and

Community Clothing

if you like clean cut, simple, contemporary clothes in neutral colours. Linen shirt dresses, denim skirts, lightweight trousers, etc.

But you could spend multiples of those prices if you want.

Not a massive budget. I will definitely invest in some linen trousers and some work dresses. Found a nice pair in the charity shop this morning!
