Trying on this dress—does it look too tight? Need some honest feedback!

Hi everyone! I’m trialing this dress, and I’d really appreciate your thoughts. I’m a bit unsure if it looks too tight on me, especially around the waist and hips.. Does it look okay, or should I size up? Thanks in advance for your advice! 😊

Definitely looks too tight to me. Sorry 🫣

The creases/rumples under the bust and across the waist/hips make it look as if you’ve squeezed into a dress that’s too tight rather than just being a fitted style. It’s also creating a bit of a bulge at the side of your bust.

You might need to take in the next size up but it will sit better on you.

You have a lovely figure and the over-tight fit of this dress isn’t doing you any favours, imo. You can easily carry off a fitted style but this sizing doesn’t quite work for you.

That’s more than long enough and your bodies great. Go forth in confidence. I wish I was still young use it while you have it

StarlightLady · 19/03/2025 07:06

I think it’s designed to be fitted. With things like this it really depends on the back view, but for that you need to summon a friend.

Fairyliz · 19/03/2025 07:31

The fit looks fine whilst you are standing up. I think I would be more worried about the length when you are moving around. Won’t you be constantly tugging it down to avoid flashing your pants? When you sit down won’t it ride up and expose all of your thighs?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 19/03/2025 07:59

Looks great on you OP. I think the only test might be can you sit down comfortably in it or is there some give in the fabric?

mewkins · 19/03/2025 08:00

I think it looks a bit snug and it may be even more so once it's been through the wash.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 19/03/2025 08:03

It looks a bit tight not ridiculously so. However, it's definitely far too short. And the shorter the dress, the more you will need the extra size so that it doesn't constantly ride up as you move around.

It will be impossible to sit in a chair (unless at a dining table) or bend over and move freely around, go up and down stairs or get in and out of a car without everyone being able to see the crotch of your knickers.

I never understand why people will wear dresses and skirts so short that they spend their lives coyly holding/pulling the hem down and trying to keep their legs crossed. It's so performatively self conscious but, annoyingly, also so unnecessary in the first place. It looks the opposite of casual and carefree, which is the look I presume you are going for.

PrivacyScreen · 19/03/2025 08:17

What happens when you sit down in it? Is it comfortable, does it still look good?

StarlightLady · 19/03/2025 08:18

For those commenting on the length, unless l’ve missed something the OP hasn’t invited comments on this. So, l think we can safely assume this is the length she wants, which looks fine to me.

Well it looks fine if you don't mind all and sundry seeing your thinly covered crotch every time you move. That's not my thing, I've never done it myself and I don't really appreciate having to politely look away when presented with other people's crotches, but, hey, if you like that sort of attention then knock yourself out.

Given the length, the dress is too tight. If it were longer then it could be tight and it would matter less because there is plenty more fabric to ride up before we all have to see what you had for dinner.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 19/03/2025 08:30

And the OP did ask for honest opinions!

What a nasty, misogynistic and ridiculous post.

why would people see her crotch? When you’re wearing a shorter dress you don’t bend over! It looks mid thigh ish and on me that would be another 8-10 inches it would need to ride up before I start flashing my crotch
I am guessing she’s just walking around normally and not doing cartwheels

Hoppinggreen · 19/03/2025 12:46

I can't see how OP's crotch would be on display and even if it was I assume she wouldn't be Sharon Stoneing

LurcherMumma · 19/03/2025 12:49

I think it looks like a good fit but if it feels on the tight side I'd go for something else. Because it's pretty short id worry being tight would make it ride up a bit if that makes sense.

FeistyFrankie · 19/03/2025 12:53

It's ever so slightly too small. The fabric looks a bit tight across your chest and hips.

Try the size up, see if it's more flattering.

Goldusty · 19/03/2025 12:53

It looks lovely on you....

CoffeeLover87 · 19/03/2025 12:54

Thanks for the feedback! To answer the question: the dress is comfy when sitting and still looks good—no major riding up issues. I completely get that shorter dresses aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m rather chuffed with this one. It’s fitted but not too tight, and I’m not planning on doing cartwheels in it anyway!

Thanks !

Enjoy it OP, it’s a lovely dress.

I mean, lots of people have pointed out the creases across the waist/hips/breast bulge that suggests it’s too tight and not just a fitted design - but as per your last comment, if you’re so certain that it’s a perfect fit OP then I’m not sure why you posted? 🤷‍♀️

I’m not how I’ve managed to get through life without having to stare at people’s crotches, I can’t say I’ve ever noticed! It’s obviously a hobby of yours, just so long as you’re not taking photos!

The ‘thinly covered’ part of your post sounds completely creepy and weirdly specific, but I guess emphasises my earlier point about crotch-watching being a pastime of yours

5128gap · 19/03/2025 13:41

I don't think sizing up is the answer. It will be too big up top, when the current fit is lovely, and you will lose the shape as its meant to be form fitting not loser. Personally I think it looks the right size, but not the best cut in the world and like it will wrinkle and pull a little. That said you look very nice in it and I'd not let it being less than perfect stop me wearing something that looked that good.

5128gap · 19/03/2025 13:48

TwigletsAndRadishes · 19/03/2025 08:30

And the OP did ask for honest opinions!

She asked for honest opinions on whether the dress could do with being bigger. She didn't ask for spiteful digs about being attention seeking, and a lot of nonsensical hyperbole about visible crotches from someone with a very over heated imagination.

Surely she was seeking views? Not everybody said it was too tight. She got a variety of opinions, l expect weighed them up, and came to her own conclusion.
