Bad salon strand test, so confused…

I haven’t been to the hairdresser for years, between lockdown and then having 3 kids close together I’ve been doing my own hair the last 5 years. I’ve only used Wella Welloxon perfect 40 vol & Wella Koleston perfect blonde to achieve high lift without bleach, and have been doing root regrowth. The last time I did this was December 2023, I’ve let my own colour grow out since then with a view to returning to a hairdresser when enough of my own root had grown through… which is now. Obviously I have a LOT of regrowth and went to a colour consultation hoping to basically have highlights in the regrowth to blend top and bottom and allow low maintenance regrowth so I can go back 2/3 times a year max.
really lovely girl at the salon did a strand test and today phoned to say my hair had melted in the bowl. I’m totally confused as I’ve not used box dye, only good quality stuff, in fact I’ve not dyed it in over a year! Washing once a week, avoiding heat as much as possible.
I don’t see how my hair could have melted? The only thing that I can think is this salon uses L’Oréal and Kevin Murphy, and I’ve been using Wella. Should I go to a salon that uses Wella and request a strand test? I’ve been so patient letting my hair grow out and not abusing it!!

Definitely get a strand test done elsewhere . They could have over processed it

Good advice from @browsyork !

I hope it all worked out for you, @Gahbag .

Are you a hairdresser OP? I’m asking as it sounds like you know your stuff to me as someone who isn’t.

However I’d be very glad that the salon let me know what happened to my hair as it sounds like you’re going to need professional colour advice from someone with good experience. good luck

Thanks for your responses!
I’ve got a consultation with another lady who uses Wella, hopefully will get somewhere with my hair!
@BeautyBlanche absolutely not a professional but have spent many years in my teens and early twenties messing about with my hair (including diy bleach which resulted in my hair melting, breaking off!) so I know what damaged hair looks like and I never thought I’d get to a point where I have so much of my own colour grown through.
seriously, I used to wash it daily, hairdryer, straighteners, on top of diy bleach. It was horrendous 🙈 and yes I’m very grateful she was honest with me with what she saw but I’m interested to see if I get the same results elsewhere!

lol I bet u £10 she has used bleach on the bit that had colour on and not the regrowth part of strand !
Also just because u didn’t use bleach a hi lift colour with 40 vol is just as bad as bleach !
I would go to a stylist who knows how to do what u want !
it could be she doesn’t know how to execute what u want so is fobbing u off (hairstylist here ) x
