Lash extensions—how do you avoid a disaster?!

I really want to get lash extensions but I’m completely overwhelmed by the choices!

How do you know if a lash tech is actually good? Is checking reviews and her work enough? But I know some have tried tons of techs over the years, so is it just trial and error?

I just don’t want to end up with clumpy spider lashes 😭

Any advice would be SO appreciated before I book!

Word of mouth recommendations are best. If you don’t know anyone who gets them done, ask a stranger on the street whose lashes you like the look of. “Omg you have such pretty lashes! Are they extensions? Where do you get them done?”

Thank you!

Most women where I live have those caterpillar lashes I definitely don't like the look of but I'll make sure to keep my eye out just in case.

Did you have to go through a couple of techs before you found a good one? and how did you tell the lash tech what kind of lashes you wanted?

I would trawl Facebook looking at examples they upload, I personally don’t like the really volumous. Russian ones so would avoid anyone that specialises in those.

I mostly just do my own now with the undies cluster lashes.

When I had mine done it was a recommendation from a beauty therapist who was doing my eyebrows. Do you have a nail tech/beauty therapist or anyone ‘in the know’ that could recommend?

I had individual lashes put on and it would’ve been hard work to make them look thick and spidery. The biggest issue was when they grew out a bit they criss-crossed.

When I wanted to try them for the first time I went to a local place that does training so I could try them without splashing the cash as they are expensive! It took longer but the student was really careful and concerned about getting them how I like and I think it was about £15. Then I kept an eye on social media for someone who was posting pictures of ones that looked like I wanted. I found a lovely lady who does a really good job.

However, she was unavailable when I was MOH and I didn’t want to try anyone else/couldn’t get anywhere so I tried some pre bonded lashes from Silly George and I really liked these as well.

What are your own lashes like? Have you tried a lift and tint? They are permed to give a natural curl and tinted dark. They last 7 weeks compared to 3 weeks for extensions.

I found mine straight away through a recommendation from a friend. I had a look at her Instagram page and even her Russian volume lashes looked nice and natural (this was before the days of caterpillar lashes, when Russian volumes actually looked nice!) She hasn’t changed her style since the trend has changed so I’ve stuck with her ever since. DD is often bemoaning how “dead” my lashes look when I get home, which I take to be a good thing because they don’t meet her caterpillar standards 😄

Where are you based? If by some divine coincidence you happen to be near to me, I’m happy to PM you her instagram page!
