Two day conference abroad, help!

I've got to travel to a European capital next month for a two day conference. I just know that my European colleagues will all be effortlessly stylish and I would like to try! I'm short, size 10 hourglass and don't suit black. I'm early 40s. I really want to look smart casual, not frumpy. Also I will just have a backpack so minimal. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you all so much x

First advice - don't just take a backpack! Is there no way to take a small carry on suitcase?

What sort of climate? Any dress codes? Just day functions or evenings too?

That's really good advice, thanks!

We all work in marketing so youthful team but no real dress code, but we should be smart etc

Guess I should get my nails done!

Following for tips! I’ve a four day conference later this year. I’ve lost weight so want to look good. I’ll get a blow dry the day before I go so my hair is good.

I've just stayed at a place where a conference took place in Europe. Women were very well groomed, hair and nails done, nicely made up. Smart beige linen trousers, with a belt and nicely patterned silk shirt tucked in. Light coloured loafers/court shoes or block heeled sandals in a tan colour. Or a nice, smart dress that is closely fitted on or just below the knee.

I'm not sure what stores do this look in the Uk as it's quite 'upmarket'. Maybe Reiss or Whistles or Zara if budget is tight.

I’d take a carry on case if I were you. Comfortable shoes are a must - lots of standing about chatting during breaks, and trotting about with colleagues looking for restaurants etc in the evening/ getting to conference dinners etc.

Have you been to conferences in your industry before? Norms for dress code for conferences in my industry are definitely not super smart, more standard smart-casual. Often you can tell the newbies as they are the overdressed ones.
