Anybody else fed up of loads of steps of skin care?

Tbh I am fed up and considering minimal skincare now that I am just too lazy may be and My skin actually doesn't need loads of active ingredients and expensive serums and potions. Just trying to cut down to cleansing, moisturising and spf for the day and cleansing and moisturising for the night. Only literally need one moisturizer that is not expensive at all. any recommendations?

I have to say the simplicity of using skin + me had been great. While its not cheap I'm also not buying loads of random products either.

Lovelysummerdays · 11/03/2025 21:06

I don’t find lots of skincare does me favours either. I just use micellar water to cleanse and then olay regenerist at night. Day cream varies but currently Elemis collagen marine with spf ( got it in a Christmas beauty hamper) Emma hardie cleansing balm in the morning.

TourangaLeila · 11/03/2025 21:12

No because I don't.

I wash my face in the shower in the morning with a generic foaming cleanser from aldi or lidl. I then moisturise with an aldi or lidl daycream with spf30 in it.

I only wash my face at night if I've worn some BB cream on an office day.

It costs me about £8 a year.

Springhassprungxx · 11/03/2025 21:35

Nivea all the way here! Cheap and cheerful but does the job!

GettingOlderandBetter · 11/03/2025 21:44

I splash my face with water and apply spf in the morning. Evenings I either use a wipe or Dermatica Squalene cleanser if I’ve worn makeup, apply my tretinoin and the moisturise with the basic Dermatica peptide one. It’s very simple and it works for me.

Edited

I am also bogstandard foaming facewash + Aldi lacura day and night creams

I also use a quick wipe of AHA tonic at night before night cream and a quick swipe of retinol in squalane from the ordinary after the night cream

I would recommend though that if you're going to cleanse your face once a day, maybe consider doing it at night, when you have food residue, particulates from fumes and all sorts on your face that could cause skin issues. In the mornings, I only use warm water (unless I dribbled in my sleep!)

I think if your skin has no particular concerns, you don't need to spend a lot, but minimise alcohol, smoking and eat plenty of fruit and veg.

BlondiePortz · 11/03/2025 23:10

I just wash my face in the shower I don't use anything else

daisydalrymple · 11/03/2025 23:15

Same here, the thought of all those different steps exhausts me. My skin has never been great with too many ingredients anyway, so probably wouldn’t cope! I use a no.7 protect and perfect, liquid cleanser at night (on cotton wool pads) and face wash in morning shower., ( not everyday) also use their day and night cream and will use the primer at night before moisturiser if I’ve had it as part of a gift set at birthday / christmas.

Sunat45degrees · 11/03/2025 23:17

I love skincare and my skin is good as a result. But i can't stand long complicated routines.

I love a cleansing balm at night - it works well to properly clean my face, leaves it feeling good etc.

I do like a retinol serum and use a neutrogena one.

Then night cream - also neutrogena.

Morning I use an exfoliate in the shower once or twice a week but otherwise just splash with water.

I use a vitamin c serum. But a good moisteriser with vitamin c would be good. Urban spf with vitamin c. I like neutrogena hydro boost. And there are lots of vitamin c spf.

Made it 38 years so far and my skin is fine. I think my method is doing the job!

HundredPercentUnsure · 11/03/2025 23:19

I cleanse my face at night with foaming face wash.
Splash with warm water in the morning.

Nivea moisturizer morning and night.
SPF in the day.

The end.

angelspike · 11/03/2025 23:20

I do (pm)

Cleanse (eye makeup remover if wearing it)
Skin and me OR serum
Moisturise

That's it really

Cleanse and spf in the morning

Jalapenosplease · 11/03/2025 23:23

Truthfully, most, if not all skincare products are a complete and utter overpriced con.

In my opinion, all you need to do is remove make up with a 'Simple' facial wipe before bed. Follow up with some good old fashioned Nivea face cream. That's it.

Good skin comes from this :

1.) Genes! Always . Good skin is absolutely genetic.

2.) your skin will look bad if you smoke or have ever smoked heavily for a prolonged period.

3.) your skin will look bad if you drink heavily.

4.) spots are hormonal. Barely a damn thing you can buy that'll change that. You'll either be prone or you won't.

5.) food and diet isn't that big of a feature in how good your skin looks. Good hydration will help as will sleep.

But ultimately it's your genes and avoiding booze and fags so as not to age quicker.

Expensive creams potions and lotions and serums are a complete money spinner.

I go through phases when I buy it all. and others when I keep it simplen and I have come to the conclusion that my skin is at its best whenI cleanse with aqueous cream and a hot cloth and use a simple moisturiser like E45 cream. And drink lots of water, which really does plump it up.

Nevertrustacop · 11/03/2025 23:31

Tret from Dermatica when I remember, SPF when I remember. Other than that wash in the shower, which I like to think I seldom forget.

TunipTheVegimal24 · 11/03/2025 23:48

I've been wondering the same.

Used a retional at night for a bit, and came up with annoying new moles, despite being careful with sunscreen etc. Could have been a coincidence or something else. But it did seem odd to suddenly get three big, new moles in my 30s, despite not being (previously), a very moley person.

Fancy day moisturisers / night moisturisers / all day spf, all give me greasy skin and spots 🤷‍♀️

Hemlocked · 12/03/2025 00:23

I wash with hot water and flannel and then put Nivea blue pot on. Skin seems fine.

For this with more complex routines, can I ask what your skin is like if you don't do your routine?

madamweb · 12/03/2025 00:27

I just use water. I rarely moisturise. I do use SPF if I am outside for any length of time. My skin is really lovely*

  • (allow me that, there's plenty that is less than perfect about me!)

The only time I had bad skin was when I tried a "skin care routine".

I don't really drink and I have never smoked though.

Same - except I used to smoke and I drink occasionally.

Faffing about with creams seems such a waste of time and money.

Although I don't wear makeup either. Maybe if I did I'd feel I needed them? I dunno.

That's a good point, I meant to say that bit . I rarely wear any make up at all. If I really want to make an effort I might use a little blusher and mascara/lip gloss. But I never use foundation etc

Startingoverandover · 12/03/2025 00:35

Wash with warm water and a flannel morning and night. SPF50, either LRP or Altruist. Tretinoin from a Spanish pharmacy (costs less than €20, lasts for months on end), or an Aldi lower SPF day cream in the winter. That's it.

Without tretinoin I have awful acne all over my chin mostly
With wipes I get flaky and dry skin so I always use a cleanser and flannel
Proper skincare (but not complex really) has changed my skin dramatically

rumkar · 12/03/2025 03:18

You can mix most of your skincare ingredients by requesting it from Monderma, Skin+Me and other dermatology pharmacies now.

Theeasypeasywoman · 12/03/2025 07:25

wow so amazing to see that not everyone believe the hype of akincare products on social media and adverts. we really don't need that.

I have a fair indian skin but my skin is really lovely apart from when I wear makeup occasionally. I use high end make up brands and they still irritate my skin but it calms down in few days when I stop using make up.

atm My skin routine is
AM - Cerave foaming wash, vitamic C, cerave tube moisturiser, spf 50

PM- Cerave wash, cerave retinol serum, cerave moisturiser

I really want to go for basics like wash and spf during the day and wash and moisturiser at night. I don't smoke or drink either.

I think I have got good genetics from my dad as our skin is similar. He never even uses soap on his face and never needed it and hardly wears any spf living in india. He is in his late 50s and he has smooth wrinkle free skin. only laughing lines around his eyes.

Love nivea blue pot.
My skin is usually good without all the products but just boarded the wagon few years ago or I would say during the lockdown with influencers thinking that I need tons of different serums and active ingredients. I think I really don't want so much faff especially at night as I am so tired after putting DD to bed that I rarely have energy to wash my face 😂
