Tbh I am fed up and considering minimal skincare now that I am just too lazy may be and My skin actually doesn't need loads of active ingredients and expensive serums and potions. Just trying to cut down to cleansing, moisturising and spf for the day and cleansing and moisturising for the night. Only literally need one moisturizer that is not expensive at all. any recommendations?

Face wash in the shower, no 7 moisturiser, bit of eye cream.
Take make up off with micellar water and pop some night cream on and that's it for me tbh

Normallynumb · 12/03/2025 15:36

I have sensitive skin with red patches and I find less is more
I use Cetaphil gentle cleansing lotion which I wipe off as I don't like putting water on my face then Aveeno Calm and restore night cream
I did use a hyaluronic acid serum underneath but I found it didn't actually make much difference.

Normallynumb · 12/03/2025 15:39

I'm 60 now and think my skin is pretty good.

Katiesaidthat · 12/03/2025 15:47

I cleanse my face at night with cleansing milk and use a night cream, in the morning I wash my face with a sensitive skin foam wash and use a rich moisturiser. That´s it.

AnAquiredTaste · 12/03/2025 15:49

I just use a micellar water to wash face morning and night, don't bother with moisturiser, it just gets in my eyes and makes them sting

jellyfishperiwinkle · 12/03/2025 15:50

I've never used a ton of stuff, lots of it is complete bunkum, and I've never had a skin problem.

BlackCat25 · 12/03/2025 16:31

I’m 60 with unpigmented, clear skin (and do some modelling so need to keep it that way). My simple AM routine is cleanse + moisturise + SPF. My PM routine is cleanse + Monderma custom formula (Tretinoin + Azelaic acid) + (very occasional) moisturiser).
Just add decent sleep, lots of water, a colourful diet and as little stress as possible.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 12/03/2025 17:17

I use Nivea Q10 day and night creams. No serums, no retinal (it caused an allergic reaction), no tret. At night I take my make up off with a hot cloth cleanser, in the morning I wash my face with a gentle face wash. I'll use an eye cream if I remember.

I used to do a weekly face mask from Lush when I was younger but I don't even do that now as I don't go anywhere near one now (and I liked the fresh ones they did).

I've never been one for loads of lotions and creams.

I use the Yuka app as it shows you which products have dubious ingredients with possible toxicity concerns (a lot of them). Some surprisingly not that expensive brands get the green lights - not the whole brand but individual products so need to check each.

Atm I'm loving Garnier Micellar Water or Rose Cleansing Cream - all clear of nasties.

What I would say is going over to more basic skincare works for me more in the summer as my skin is less needy so that's my plan. In the winter my skin is more dry so probably spend more in winter.

DarlingDay · 12/03/2025 21:45

Am: Vitamin c, mousturiser, cicaplast baume, sunscreen.

Pm: hylauronic acid, tret, moisturiser, cicaplast baume.

This is my routine. It felt a lot in the am to start but my God my skin has never looked so good. Fine lines have disappeared and all my sun spots and sebaceous filaments are GONE!

You get used to the steps after a while.

I use that app too. I’ve got rid of half the products I had because of it.

No because I enjoy the spa-like ritual of beautifully fragranced and presented products that make my skin feel nice (and IME they make a difference).

Truthfully, most, if not all skincare products are a complete and utter overpriced con.

In my opinion, all you need to do is remove make up with a 'Simple' facial wipe before bed. Follow up with some good old fashioned Nivea face cream. That's it.

Good skin comes from this :

1.) Genes! Always . Good skin is absolutely genetic.

2.) your skin will look bad if you smoke or have ever smoked heavily for a prolonged period.

3.) your skin will look bad if you drink heavily.

4.) spots are hormonal. Barely a damn thing you can buy that'll change that. You'll either be prone or you won't.

5.) food and diet isn't that big of a feature in how good your skin looks. Good hydration will help as will sleep.

But ultimately it's your genes and avoiding booze and fags so as not to age quicker.

Expensive creams potions and lotions and serums are a complete money spinner.

Agree with this but also add not too much sun either or bad fatty foods...drink lots of water. But I do feel you should use a proper cleanser not just a make up wipe then toner and moisturise

Jillfi · 13/03/2025 00:54

It's a pain. I only bother with Monderma for prescription and The Ordinary for general use now.

I splash my face with water and apply spf in the morning. Evenings I either use a wipe or Dermatica Squalene cleanser if I’ve worn makeup, apply my tretinoin and the moisturise with the basic Dermatica peptide one. It’s very simple and it works for me.

Where do you buy your tretinoin from please x

arcticpandas · 13/03/2025 09:47

Ha! Never used snake oil for my skin because I don't want to waste money and I really find it tedious. So I wash with water in the morning. Yes plain water nothing else. If I'm dry I put on some Dexeryl, same as I use for the kids (6£ lasts atleast 5 months for the family). If sunny I put on some sunlotion. That's it.I have good skin because I sleep well, drink water and don't smoke.

Ilovegoldies · 13/03/2025 09:53

In my youth I smoked like a chimney. I also had an unfortunate wine habit. You wouldn't know it to look at me (I know that's big headed) I have worn spf daily since I was 18 though and I am blessed with good genes.
My skincare routine at night is wash face and apply Nivea. In the day I use a facial SPF 30 in winter and 50 in the summer.
My hair has always been crap though, prone to grease and fine and wispy 😕 so I'm definitely not lucky with everything.

I buy Retirides online from a pharmacy in Andorra.

Jillfi · 13/03/2025 22:58

Dermatica's is also good. I like Monderma as their tretinoin is vegan and contains hyaluronic acid and peptides.

BlondiePortz · 11/03/2025 23:10

I just wash my face in the shower I don't use anything else

I'm so glad it's not just me 🤣. I do sometimes smear CCS swedish foot cream over my face too. (I love it as an all over moisturiser, so thick) but not on a daily or even regular basis.
