Just that really - I think there are little things I can buy, it's not much too big but is so loose that it fell off into (thankfully) my bag the other day...

so any advice for anything that does (or does not) work??

I use ones like these as they are more inconspicuous than the plastic ones and more comfortable as my fingers expand with heat. A jeweller will be able to resize the ring if it's not fashion jewellery

If you don’t mind paying, a jeweller can reduce the size to make it fit. I had a ring enlarged and it doesn’t show at all.

Such brilliant advice on here - thank you!

Resizing may well be an option in future (and I didn't know they could make rings bigger! Great news) - but for now I'm going to try some of the "easy options" and see which I find most easy/comfortable.

I also wear a couple of these rings on different fingers, depending on what combination looks best with an outfit, so it is going to be great to be able to change them around.

I lost a lot of weight but worry about residente in case i put it back on. Also, don’t they take away some of the gold to resize?

I'm a jeweller, I resize rings virtually every day.
You're right, if a ring is made smaller, sometimes a small amount of gold (or platinum) is taken out, if it's made bigger a small amount is added. And they are priced accordingly. Occassionally a customer asks for the piece back, and we give it to them.

TizerorFizz · 12/03/2025 18:51

Who wants some silly unusable piece of metal? Resizing is a no brainer. The metal taken out is worth diddly squat.

Anything added to the inside makes a gap. It's not great against another ring. Silver resizing is barely worth the effort. White gold should be replated and will look new. I've had several rings made bigger and all perfect. I'd definitely resize if an expensive ring. Just more classy.

@loveyouradvice Good luck finding something that works in the interim whilst you decide what to do.

I’ve still got about 2.5st to go before I can go and resize my ring at the jeweller so those plastic things have been a life saver!

I’ve recently lost 4st so my engagement ring is hanging off me. I bought this things from Amazon and they work perfectly.

Sorry for awful Amazon link… amzn.eu/d/hWkS5Le

Definitely these.

I bought a cheap thin gold coloured ring from Pandora for £40 to keep mine on.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 12/03/2025 21:15

I have exactly the same after weight loss. I just googled silver rings (all my rings are silver) and bought two very thin silver rings, one for each hand, to keep all my too big rings on my fingers. Much easier than altering every single ring you possess. They each cost about £12.

Thank you. Does it afffect the hallmarks? My ring is an ancient family heirloom and I’d rather not lose the hallmarks.

It would depend on how deep the hallmarks are (older ones are often much deeper/clearer than modern) and the placement of them inside the band. Also how many sizes were being taken out. We would always do everything possible to preserve a hallmark, particularly on antique rings

Sob... My ring kept slipping off after weight loss and I kept meaning to buy something like this. I didn't get round to it and lost my fav silver ring. Not available anymore ...

Yes, my jeweller recommended the little bands from Amazon.

I'm holding out for DH to buy me an eternity ring to keep my wedding and engagement rings on following 6.5 stone weight loss.

I won't hold my breath I've been hinting for one since DC1 was born 10 years ago.

In the mean time I'll try one of the things linked above. Thanks!

Buy yourself one! That way, you can pick something you really love.
That's some achievement btw 👏

I had this with my wedding ring, and put a band of glue on the inside - just add & let it dry. Using glue is comfortable, infinitely adjustable, and reversible!
Bostik (clear) works OK - you can peel it off if your weight changes/ summer (but it sometimes peels off after repeated water immersion) or I've also used super glue. Using glue is comfortable, infinitely adjustable, and reversible!

WhatTheFuckIsThisNow · 13/03/2025 20:53

My wedding ring is Welsh rose gold and is patterned all the way around, so not only did I not want to lose any gold to have it made smaller when I lost weight, it also wasn't possible without ruining the design. Like PPs I wear a narrow rose gold band with it as a keeper.

loveyouradvice · 16/03/2025 18:43

@villanova I rather like that DIY idea.... great tip!!
