Birkenstock Bostons

Sebsaloysius · 11/03/2025 15:12

I've had it with dupes that fall to pieces after half a season, so I've decided to invest in a decent pair of summer clogs. I think it's got to be these, but what colour? There seems to be many variants of beige and brown and I don't trust my monitor...

I'd ideally like a colour similar to my Uggs, but perhaps a little lighter, although not as pale as the sand colour seems to be. Can anyone advise which colour I should look at?

Thank you, S&B gurus!

Mine are taupe which I like and seems to go with everything!

Thank you, taupe was at the top of my list so that may be the colour. Although...I've just seen the pink ones and it's sooo tempting!

Do you mind me asking, as you own a pair - are they fairly generous in the width? I'm ideally a 6.5, but will size down for a standard or wider fitting, and size up if it's narrower.

Yes the sizing is generous. I have quite wide feet and am usually a size 5 (38) but I have a few pairs of Birkenstock all in size 37.

Settodonotdisturb · 11/03/2025 15:51

The taupe is the most sought after colour because it’s the most neutral. Not Ugg colour, more grey toned than that but not necessarily true cool toned.
I have just bought the Sage Green because I have a tedious compulsion to be a little bit different. I’m impressed with how well it also works as a neutral.
I am a 39 with slightly wide feet and always buy a 39 regular in birks. If you are planning on wearing with socks in spring and autumn I would stick to your normal size.

RainOnTins · 11/03/2025 16:53

I too have a tedious compulsion to be a bit different and got the Berry Crush colour (big buckle). It’s a great colour - it’s fun, but not too out there and a lot more versatile than I’d originally thought.

Sebsaloysius · 11/03/2025 22:12

Thanks everyone. I think I spent too long pondering as I've had to abort my quest - there's not a size 6 to be had in taupe anywhere! For now, I've managed to find and order a bronze pair of Mayari's for the summer, which I've also been eyeing up!

I was considering these today and saw the light pink ones!
Only thing is I’m not sure what I’d wear them with - I mean the style, not just the colour. I wear a lot of navy all year round and like pink with navy but I don’t think they’d look nice with dresses and I don’t know they the sort of trousers I wear would look right with them.
What are you envisaging wearing them with?
I bought the Ugg tas slippers at christmas to wear on a holiday (uk!) as we have heated floors at home and i‘m sick of my feet freezing whenever we go away but to me they’re indoor slippers yet I see people wearing them out! I wonder if I see the bostons as indoor shoes but I don’t wear shoes at home cos I have warm floors! Maybe these aren’t for me after all which is a shame as I’ve taken a shine to the pink ones…

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/03/2025 00:02

I love Bostons! I have black oiled leather, tan suede, and taupe leather, plus chocolate brown shearling slippers. The black I bought via Depop about four years ago as I wasn’t sure if I would like them, then bought the tan suede the following year, and got the taupe leather as a present last year.

I have plantar fasciitis so they are great for that. I wear them with dresses and bare legs on hot days in summer, but mainly with jeans (wide leg/barrel/mom styles) and chunky socks. I’m a UK 4 and wear my usual size.

Sebsaloysius · 12/03/2025 00:11

@TheChosenTwo

The pink ones are out of stock everywhere too, bah! Like you, I wear a ton of navy and love the two colour combinations.

I'd probably wear them with anything and everything if and when I can get my hands on them. I do have mobility limitations and use an electric wheelchair for anything other than the shortest of walks, so comfort is paramount to me when walking, as I'm fairly wobbly on my feet.

I've got a pair of Ugg Tazz too, which I wear outside - I care not a jot! I wear skinny jeans mostly, with the occasional wide leg crop jeans. I'm hoping the Bostons will work with both styles. If they ever come back in stock, that is.

I always love the idea of not following the crowd, but I often bottle it. But the pink Bostons are definitely gorgeous enough to make me not be a sheep on this occasion. If you ever see them available anywhere, do come back and give me a poke!

@Sebsaloysius there is no such thing as. Six 6, the sizing weirdly jumps from 5.5 (39) to 7 (40). I am a UK six and always buy the 5.5 regular width. The Birkenstock website has the soft footbed in a 39 taupe.

@TheChosenTwo i wear mine just like @Judystilldreamsofhorses does, I also have some crochet look socks that I throw in the mix for something more ditsy.

@RainOnTins mine are big buckle too, I had to choose between the Berry and the sage both so rich in colour.

Sebsaloysius · 12/03/2025 20:04

@Settodonotdisturb

No wonder I couldn't find a 6 anywhere then. Thank you for that, how bizarre though - I thought size 6 was one of the most common shoe sizes for women. Although a 6 is a 39, isn't it? This is too confusing for my middle-aged brain.

I'm stuck as to what to do now, my feet are a bit contrary! I have Uggs and Veja trainers which fit perfectly in a 6, but sandals and court-style shoes I can be anything from 6.5 to 7. I'd say my feet are average width.

I'm not planning wearing socks with these, so think I'll risk a 39, unless anyone might recommend differently?

Just joining in on the love of bostons. I have then in leather, black and tobacco. I love them on cool but dry days with socks, then slightly warmer days without socks. I'd really like to get some suede. I have 5 pairs of arizonas, one of which is suede and just doesn't get worn though, so I fear it would be an extensive mistake. I also have the zermat house shoes in anthracite, they're fabulous.

ExtraDecluttering · 12/03/2025 20:33

I've got bright pink suede shearling lined Bostons and wear them all the time, either barefoot or with grey or light pink chunky socks, I just love them, I must have walked 100s of miles in them. I wear them with black, grey or navy trousers. Also got some suede stone coloured ones for the summer.

I've never had any problems, I've ordered many times and occasionally returned and no issues.

ShaunaSadeki · 12/03/2025 21:49

Off topic, but @Settodonotdisturb I love your description of the tedious compulsion to be little bit different. I too suffer from this affliction.
