Men or women's rogaine?

Reading "offical" websites, it says women should only use the women strength minoxidil/ rogaine. But then I've heard so many therapists say women can use the men's version. So why do offical sources say women's only! It's so confusing 🤦🏻‍♀️

I follow a few dermatologists who say women can use the men's version but I think just once a day

Yeah I think that's the difference, as for men it's twice. But why not just say that? But then Boots and Superdrug website both says only use the women's strength. I don't want to turn into a hairy yeti 🤣

I'm currently using the women's one, I'm about a month in to it and it's causing even more hair loss. Apparently this is normal and means it's working but it doesn't feel like it!

Donotgogentle · 09/03/2025 07:25

There’s a 2% minoxidil and 5% minoxidil formulation for either sex. The 5% minoxidil version (Extra strength Regaine) is only licensed for women to use once a day but it’s the same ingredients as the men’s 5%.

Donotgogentle · 09/03/2025 07:27

Also I’m guessing you’re in the US as you call it Rogaine, it may be licensed differently there than the UK.

TreesWelliesKnees · 09/03/2025 08:03

In the UK, the 5% formula is exactly the same for both men and women. The only differences are the instructions on the packaging and the PRICE. The men's version is significantly cheaper. It's a sexist scam. I've been using the men's one for years and have not grown a beard!

DecafDodger · 09/03/2025 08:13

yes it's just licensing. Same ingredients, but with pink tax on the women's one. Have been using generic "men's version" 5% with great results myself.

Yes I've read that loads and it's a positive thing as it means new hair is getting ready to come. But that is a worry nonetheless!!
