Any hair dressers around? Can anything be done about these money pieces?

I visited the hairdressers about two weeks ago. It was a hairdresser I’d visited before. Previously she did a lovely balayage type thing. There were some lighter pieces around my face but very subtle.

I returned and asked for the same again. I walked out with this (see photos). Overall I’m pretty happy with it but I really dislike the bright blonde, thick bits around my face.

I can’t go back to the original salon as it’s not local to me now. I was visiting my hometown when I had it done. If I visit a salon locally, would asking for a toner help?

Im due to have my baby imminently and feeling a bit sensitive and disappointed. I paid a decent price for this and don’t want to pay out again for a complete re do. Equally, I’m not comfortable enough now to sit for a long length of time. Can anything be done? Worried I’ll regret having terrible hair in first photos with the baby, and that it will grow out awfully!

Yes, a toner should darken it. You could do it at home.

Oh goodness OP - the same happened to me last year, I could’ve cried! Got them toned down but the bloody things were still so bright, I ended up just getting them cut short and dyed my whole head back to my natural brown. Never went back to that hairdresser - it was a complete breach of trust in my opinion

It’s like all hairdressers are trained that any form of highlighting, balayage, etc must have two strips at the front that “frame your face”!

I had this last weekend at the hairdressers, my usual guy was off sick so i took a chance with another stylist...never again. I had 2 bright yellow stripes at the front, it looked awful, they did a toner but it looked worse afterwards. Happily I wasn't charged but I couldn't get in anywhere else so I bought a toner and did it myself...turned out quite well I think, blends in a lot better

Can't find my before pic sadly but it was dire

stressedtothemaxdotcom · 07/03/2025 10:17

I think it looks fine in the second pic.

If you try styling your hair slightly over they'll blend in.

Thanks everyone for your kind and helpful responses! Crazy that this seems to be a problem for lots of people. I think I’ll look into getting a toner put on it. Definitely not brave enough to do anything at home at this point!

Reminds me of Ginger Spice in 1997 when she used to have two blonde stripes at the front!

You could also use a coloured dry shampoo as a temporary measure until you've had the baby.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 07/03/2025 10:29

Perhaps if you were to buy a cheap wash in toner (eg Superdrug) in a cool/ash colour then it will take the brightness out of the blonde.

Update! I went to a local hairdressers today and they did this in 30 mins. Charged £30. I think it looks a lot better!

Thanks everyone for your help and sympathy!
