Hair Colour Query

Hi can anyone advise on a hair colour query? I get my brown mid length hair coloured & cut by the same stylist who is very very reasonable (& cost is an issue atm). Which is why I've stayed with her for so long having had not gr8 experiences for far more ££.
I like how she colours it butnever happy with the cut (often uneven, very blunt with her layers, won't/can't point cut the ends to take weight out despite me asking her, instead thins it out by using the blade of the scissors in an upward motion ruining my hair & i have to rely on straighteners to make it look presentable despite it being poker straight anyway). Probably not that uncommon!! So I'm wanting to go elsewhere but not sure what I ask for colour wise.

I get about 12 weeks of coverage out of each colour/visit where she does my roots & goes about 1/2 way down the lengths. She says she also puts a gloss on the rest to brighten it up. I'm early 50's about 20% grey & she uses a colour very close to my natural shade so I never look washed out or a much darker brown (which I've had in the past & not liked it). I don't know if it's a permanent colour on my roots - there's no clear line between it & the rest of my hair so I'm thinking it's not. When I've asked her if she can run it through the rest of my hair every once in a blue moon to brighten up the lengths though, she says I can't bcos it will deposit too much colour & I will then get a line. The colour is enough to make the natural lighter/greyer colours covered & then less grey after x weeks & gives dimension rather than having a flat block colour on it. What I don't get is how or when she's adding the gloss as she only applies the colour once. Does it get mixed in & applied at same time she's doing my roots? When I've asked she says yes you had the gloss put on as well & is v resistant to me ever wanting to query/change things (colour or style). I guess I cld go back one final time & fully figure out what's she does so I can ask for the same elsewhere. I don't want to change only to get a better cut but worse colour!
And fairly new to the whole colouring thing, don't really do hair & beauty bar for maintenance & am ND so tend to hate the whole experience - hence lack of assertion /confrontation & even watching & seeing what she's doing.
Any suggestions iwld be much appreciated!

Could you tell a white lie and say someone related to you will soon start cutting your hair as they are newly trained? But you’d love to continue colour? Then get your hair cut separately beforehand?

@Peaceandquietandacuppa have thought about doing that - I guess I could -I just don't know if I can face her knowing that I'm getting it cut elsewhere. I'm not good with awkward. If it was a salon where they have separate colour technicians & stylists then it wld be easier to go to her just for colour. Guess I'm going to just have to describe what I currently get done & ask new stylist if they can replicate it. Thanks for the suggestion tho!
