Having facelift surgery in 10 days - support and advice needed

HI there,

I'm due to go for surgery on 15th March. Face and neck lift under local anaesthetic. I'm 53, medium weight, would like to be a bit lighter. I've had a horrendous few years personally and it's shown a lot on my face. I'm in a better place now and feel this will give me a boost to restart the 'new me.' I'd love to hear from anyone really as I haven't told many people I'm having it done as it seems so vain. My dd is very supportive though. I don't have a current partner.

Any tips from those who have had similar procedures? Or chats with anyone thinking of getting some work done. Or even haters who will tell me that looks don't matter and I should bin it off.

No advice to offer apart from go for it!!! If it makes you feel better why wouldn’t you have it done. Hope all goes well and all the best for a speedy recovery

It's totally understandable to feel anxious but you really are in safe hands. Would you mind if I PM you? I have details of a on line support group which might be useful to you both before and after your op.

Does the online group have an offshoot for people considering the procedure? I really want to do it too, but keep booking and then cancelling/postponing as I am so nervous of choosing the wrong consultant or people (not really friends, but the mummy circle where I live and still bump into people in Sainsburys) knowing and discussing it! As far as I am aware (and this may be completely wrong) no one I know IRL has ever had a cosmetic procedure, so I’ve nobody to ask about the realities of the procedure, the recovery, recommended consultants. I am close to the McIndoe and several Spire Hospitals, so have plenty of access to respected consultants but…

so being able to connect with other women in my county who’ve done it would be amazing!

Yes absolutely. It is a Facebook group for those considering or undergoing facial surgery. If you want details I can PM you.

If you don’t mind? I’d love the details. 🙏

I am so sorry you’ve been through such a tough few years OP, and very glad you have your dd by your side. Hope all goes well and look forward to hearing about it. I understand how sometimes change doesn’t just feel like ageing naturally, sometimes it feels like a perfect storm of all kinds of things happening and the body physically bearing the signs. I hope this will be a great reset for you to pamper yourself and move forward feeling good.

BlackSwan · 15/03/2025 11:15

How did it go Merry? Hope it all went well & you're resting up.

Blondiebeachbabe · 15/03/2025 13:50

I wish I had seen this a few days ago, as your operation is today.

I had this done in October 2023. I also had an upper and lower bleph at the same time. I posted my progress on here.

So it's 17 months ago now for me. I was 53 at the time. I'm 55 now. I am very pleased with the results.

My advice would be :

  1. It will take several weeks to look unbruised and normal again, so do not panic if you think you look weird! It all settles.

  2. If you feel the pain killers aren't strong enough, ask your GP for 30mg Codeine tablets. I was only given paracetamol by the clinic, which in no way is enough. Pain should subside by day 3 though.

  3. Be prepared for a few restless nights. There is a lot of adrenaline in the local anaesthetic. My legs were very twitchy.

  4. Keep the head bandages on religiously. If you take them off too soon your neck will sag. Make sure the lines are smooth. I had a little bump in mine, and that's now visible along my jawline. No one else would notice, but of course I know it's there.

Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you need to. xx

I'm in the same age bracket OP and although I've never had botox or fillers I absolutely would have a facelift! Only this morning I was bemoaning the jowls and turkey neck that have appeared in the last year. If and when I have the money, I will absolutely be going for a facelift. I hope it all goes to plan and please come back with an update when you feel able. Good luck!

Botox and fillers are much easier, quicker and cheaper than a facelift!

soupyspoon · 15/03/2025 16:12

If someone had regular botox since they were about 35 say, how much would they have spent until they were 55?

WhoInvitedHer · 15/03/2025 17:19

I’m 62 and having deep plane face and neck lift with upper bleph next month. I’ve certainly done my research and am comfortable with my choice. My retirement present for me. Happy to look younger and fresher and no shame in that. Husband supportive and I don’t think I could feel happy doing it if he wasn’t but equally he loves me as I am. My face my choice.

Age.
Look at Madge and any other person who've had work done. Their faces may look dewy and jowl-less, the turkey neck lessened, but hands...

I was on a crowded bus once and a woman asked me how I kept my hands looking so young. I was really flattered and told her about my lovely hand creams. It was only a few days later that I wondered what she was comparing them with 😂

MerryForever · 15/03/2025 18:22

I’m done! Went down at 9.30 and back on the ward at 4.30. Lots of pain in my jaw and ears so had some codeine and paracetamol.

will keep you posted when I can!

Well done you brave woman!! Hope you manage to get a good night’s sleep. Do keep us updated on how you are feeling when and if you are up to it.

I know, and I have lots of friends who do it but it's just not for me. The idea of a foreign body/substance in me really puts me off. I don't have mirena coil for same reason!
I'm early 50s so holding out til my 60th birthday and going to treat myself to a lift of some sort then 😊

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 15/03/2025 21:10

Congrats OP I'm glad it went well and I wish you a quick and easy recovery Flowers

BlackSwan · 16/03/2025 07:57

You're out the other side! Hope the pain subsides quickly for you.
