At nearly 40 I have finally stopped biting my nails! It's taken a good 3 months to get them to a length that is respectable and I have started to buy some nail varnish. I have pale skin and red hair so I am finding lighter colours seem to suit me more but I am happy to be corrected! What colours are you wearing at the moment? I am currently using Essie's matter of fiction https://www.lookfantastic.com/p/essie-gel-couture-gel-like-nail-polish-matter-of-fiction/15376192/?affil=thggpsad&switchcurrency=GBP&shippingcountry=GB&affil=thggpsad&kwds=&thg_ppc_campaign=20544267089&adtype=pla_with_promotion&product_id=15376192&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIy_TJz7zxiwMVmpNQBh0slxjPEAQYASABEgIx-vD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I’d say that darker colours would suit you better actually! I’m also quite pale with auburn hair and find that pastels wash me out. Navy/royal blue are my two go to colours.

Last time I got my nails done I went for a very similar pink to the Essie one you’ve linked - honestly couldn’t wait to get it off my nails! It just wasn’t me and I felt that it was almost a bit childish - even my friends commented that it didn’t really suit.

I love O.P.I Bubble bath & Passion..

I love Matter of Fiction!
I have Essie Fairy Tailor on at the moment which is a slightly paler pink and my all time favourite polish.

The most up to date nails are pale pinks and beiges. I like the manucurist range. They’re good for your nails as well as easy to apply, fast drying long lasting and very quick to remove.

I’m pale with red hair and wear vibrant colours. Mixture of pinks, blues and greens mostly but throw in any rainbow colours too. Plus, as much glitter as I can get away with! I have mine professionally done with nail art as my treat to myself each month. ☺️

I’ve attached the Pinterest design that inspired my current nails.

I prefer beiges and pale pinks. I think garish gel nails have had their day.

ExtraDecluttering · 05/03/2025 06:54

I’m definitely pale pinks and beiges this year, I haven’t worn a deep or dark colour for ages. All the ones I’ve worn recently have been Essie.

Today I am wearing Muchi Muchi, a sheer pale pink. Before that it was Eternal Optimist (very light brown), before that Ballet Slippers (sheer almost white pink) and before that Mademoiselle (another slightly sheer very pale pink). Pale skin / dark hair, suits silver rather than gold.

I will definitely give a darker colour a try probably towards autumn now!

Oh I love eternal optimist, that is going in my basket 😍

Mine are a neon orangey red very similar to Claudia's here. They are pretty short. Previously had similar to Pantone's "mocha mousse" but they were just too dull for me. I suit bright nails much better and I wear a lot of neutrals so prefer the contrast.

I have acrylics. Currently have an ombre pale french. It's really subtle but I like it.

Next time I'll go for a colour, maybe something bright for spring.

MyLovelyLily · 05/03/2025 07:32

Last night I gave myself a manicure with Bordeaux by Essie. It's my go to red. I am also pale but with brunette hair.

I wear a lot of bright colours especially pinks so I'm the other way round and tend to avoid reds, I do wear them sometimes though, but have to go for blue tones rather than orange. Rimmel are my best brand for reds, I like Double Decker red.

I choose my nails based on what I like and what makes me happy. Often, that’s garish colours 🤷‍♀️

tobee · 06/03/2025 01:33

Yeah can't resist a bit of garish myself 😁
