Would you buy a Karen Millen dress? I just bought a short purple satin one in a charity shop for £20. Immaculate condition. It’s not my size so I’m hoping to sell it on.

Yes

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 04/03/2025 12:35

I never have …

In the early 2000s they seemed to sell amazing clothes for a very different woman to me - someone requiring highly embellished glamour in synthetic fabrics. I’ve scarcely remembered them since then. Occasionally on S&B someone links a wonderful dress from there - but I never see anything else on the site that I would want to buy.

RabbitsRock · 04/03/2025 12:36

Will take a photo after work & post it on here. Wondering what to sell it for.

(I’m sure you’re aware you can’t advertise or sell here? Probably ok if genuinely just asking for opinions on the brand and style.)

Jemandthehollograms · 04/03/2025 12:39

I love Karen Millen! I would love to see the dress

PlumpAndDeliciousFatcat · 04/03/2025 12:40

Karen Millen is one of those brands where I'd buy something 10+ years old in good condition but not the newer stuff put out under the brand since it was bought by Boohoo.

RabbitsRock · 04/03/2025 12:51

BlossomBlossomBlossom yes just asking for advice.

I buy Karen Millen on eBay/Vinted. Got a couple of good jumpers and layering vest tops

madaboutpurple · 04/03/2025 14:20

I would say offer it on Ebay as a bid and with luck you will be offered more than £20.

RabbitsRock · 04/03/2025 17:40

This is the dress

For EBay I would use a good hanger and photograph it hanging from a door. Even for £20 I wouldn’t want second hand clothes that I’d seen draped across someone’s sofa. I’d be imagining the garment stained with spilled tea and reeking of discarded pizza crusts. (Not your sofa, of course - just in general!)

FeatherFace · 04/03/2025 18:37

Its very dated so I think you'll struggle to make a profit on it

LBFseBrom · 04/03/2025 18:37

Yes, why not if it suited me.

memyselfi · 04/03/2025 20:09

You'll probably only get £20 for it though.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 04/03/2025 20:16

I think you'd get less than £20

VerityUnreasonble · 04/03/2025 21:46

Vinted has a lot of similar short style Karen Millen dresses for between about £10-25, so I would assume it will sell for around that.

I did once buy a still quite expensive even 2nd hand Karen Millen dress on vinted but it was a long, fully lined, cotton dress and an absolutely perfect shape for me. So I guess you could always try it for more and hope it's the perfect dress for someone.

In the 90s I always thought of it as a bit glamorous WAG on a budget, which was fine, not my thing but it had its own identity.

The only things I ever bought were in 1999 a long, very sheer black silk organza pleated skirt, with a white cotton lining and a black silk twinset with exotic flowered embroidery. They were lovely.

There was a wonderful balloon sleeved, very full skirted dress on here about a year ago but mostly their stuff now is in that Phase 8, Mint Velvet no particular identity of its own zone.

RabbitsRock · 05/03/2025 07:22

I think I got carried away in the charity shop! Thought it was £10 & found out as I was paying for other things that it was £20. Still, the charity has benefited & I may either get my money back or make a bit of profit.

I've had one on vinted for absolute ages.i thought it would all really quickly as it's 'the good stuff' but I've never had an offer on it. I relist it every so often but nothing.

Cyclingmummy1 · 05/03/2025 07:31

If you're selling it, maybe measure it - the waists are tiny on the vintage stuff. I've got new size 8s that are bigger than their 12.

RabbitsRock · 05/03/2025 07:46

Also have a pair of Nicole Farhi black trousers size 12 in very good condition. Perhaps I’ll have more luck with those!

I'd buy a retro Karen Millen dress for the right occasion. Although I think I'd feel a bit like a quality street wearing that dress 😂

Jemandthehollograms · 06/03/2025 06:47

It is a lovely dress!

MyGardenHasGreatTits · 06/03/2025 06:52

It’s very dated. Looks like Girls Aloud circa 2006 and I’d only expect to get around a tenner max on Vinted / EBay.

LBFseBrom · 06/03/2025 15:30

A tenner would be fine plus postage if it only cost £4.50. People who sell a lot on ebay often have small profit margins but they add up.

However I note the op paid £20.00. I suggest she puts it up for £25 plus reasonable p&p and accept a lower offer.

It's a lovely dress, deserves a good photograph.
