Mulberry Alana, dated or cool again?

Just digging through my wardrobe and unearthed my lovely Alana. I used to have loads of Mulberrys but this is the only one I kept and the newer ones don't interest me - nothing will ever beat the old Darwin leathers for me.

It felt a bit dated for a long time - all that hardware, the short strap - but I don't know, perhaps it's come full circle? I saw a girl in her 20s carrying something very similar yesterday and it looked surprisingly fresh. Will it look as fresh on middle aged me though?! For reference, my style is a bit Vampire's Wife but on the cheap

As an aside though my GOD these old Mulberrys are beautiful - 20 years old and looks even more perfect than it did new, and still smells gorgeous. Sigh.

Oh and do feel free to post pictures of your vintage Mulberrys for me to salivate over!

I would say go for it! Look at the relived section on Mulberry and you will see that it still has value! Last summer I treated myself to a Roxy as when they were first out I couldn’t afford one. Now the weather is getting better then I will be getting it out( it’s canvas with leather) I think the quality of old Mulberry is excellent.

@WhatTheFuckIsThisNow I also think it’s a statement to wear bags that aren’t strictly ‘in’.

I’m busy restoring my Phoebe. Excuse the stuffing and the colour looks a bit weird but I loved this bag and intend to use it again.

I love your Alana and I’d definitely bring it out of retirement

£550 for a preloved Alana on Mulberry https://www.mulberry.com/gb/shop/pre-loved-womens/alana-pre-loved-chocolate-natural-veg-tanned

Absolutely stunning bag and you can’t beat the quality of the older Mulberry’s. Wear it with pride -it’s such a great piece.

I have an Oak Alana which I dug out and conditioned recently. As you say, the quality of the older bags is amazing. I’ve been wearing my Olive Elgin a lot this winter, so going to use my Alana for spring.

I have 5-6 old Mulberry bags and I am determined to enjoy them again.

According to Vogue they are very much in style www.vogue.co.uk/article/vintage-mulberry-bags

Actually, I think mine is an Emmy rather than an Alana (back in the day I could name every Mulberry by sight) but very similar.

Definitely use it. John Lewis were selling a bag just like this recently. Your mulberry is gorgeous.

Very Y2K aesthetic! My teens would love it!

Pollyanna87 · 01/02/2026 19:20

It looks great. It’s also a more obscure design as opposed to, say, a Bayswater. Wear it!

Nothing useful to add but your bag looks like it has a very angry little face Grin

I have a vintage Roxanne. I don’t use it much as it’s so bloomin heavy but it’s a cracking bag. Love your Alana - it’s quite like the Chloe Paddington I think, which is back in just now.

Just got my Roxanne out too. It weights a tonne. Such gorgeous quality compared to the current bags. Love the OPs Alana.

Definitely use it, I’ve never stopped carrying my vintage Mulberries.
Today was chocolate Darwin Blenheim.
