At home diy brows

Anybody dye their brown themselves? What do you use? From where? Anything I need to watch out for? Tips?

I’m dark blonde anyway and brows going grey. Can’t afford to keep going to salon (though still will for special occasions) and don’t wear makeup every day so am thinking of diy.

I do. I got a kit online - it’s called hibrow and it’s a professional tint so lasts a while but it’s pretty easy to use. I have the dark brown as I’m dark haired (when it’s not bright green!) but there are various shades available

CherryRipe1 · 28/02/2025 13:11

I use refectocil black as it fades fairly quickly to a dark brown. I get it off eBay & used it for years no problem. You have to mix a blob with hydrogen peroxide into a paste. You can buy this with the tint usually. Don't pluck or thread prior to tinting. You would probably need a very light brown colour. Have a look at their colour chart.

I use an old eyebrow brush or cotton bud btw. The "angry bird" looks fades in a day or two!

Another vote for refectocil, I've just bought it and it worked (a little too well, I left it on too long and my brows went black!!)

I used to use Just for Men beard dye, a lot of people on Mumsnet recommend it for brows but I don't know if it's just me, it doesn't take to my brows. I leave it on for ages, wipe it off and they look no different 😳

I use Godefroy. Find the coverage pretty good

Binfire · 28/02/2025 16:38

I used Just for men beard dye during the lockdown! It worked brilliantly and was dead easy too, my brows are just so sparse now I have to fill them in rather than dye them.

ForPearlViper · 28/02/2025 16:44

Another for Refectocil but start with a lighter colour than you think you need just in case. If you find a lot of brow colours a bit warm for your colouring they also do a shade called, I think, graphite that you can mix in to get something cooler. It is a good shade if, like me, you have grey hair

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 28/02/2025 16:45

My eyebrows are a bit sparse after chemo. I've been using Maybelline Tattoo brows, don't last as long as a dye but work for me.

museumum · 28/02/2025 16:55

Ok I will look up refectocil even though it sounds like a haemorrhoid cream.

I use refectocil too, Mumsnet gave me advice on this years ago! I do my eyelashes too. I'm blonde and use the light brown for my brows. You have to get the peroxide cream too but it is easy to mix and lasts ages.

Yes, my brows are naturally fair/sort of ginger? And I dye them using the Schwarzkopf dark blonde dye. They also have light brown. I’ve tried a few dyes and this one is the best. It really ‘takes’ and lasts a good month.

Another vote for this.

in addition to the tips on what product to use, I have a tip on how to do it

I've been dyeing and laminating my brows for years now, love the look

I do each on a separate day as after dyeing you need to have no oil on them for 24 hours but can wash with water, and after laminating you can use oil to clean up but no water so...

when dyeing I used to cover surrounding area in vaseline, but turns out there's a much easier way

I apply the dye using a small eyebrow brush to really get it in there, then kinda plop as much on top as I can

I pop a little on the very ends top lashes as well

when I'm putting it all on I don't care if I get some on surrounding areas

when I'm don putting it on, using a cotton bud dipped in water, I clean up around and make a nice shape

quick and easy!

set timer, wipe off with damp tissue or cloth when done

I am a dark blonde with light brows and use Refectocil 3.1 and leave it on for about 10 minutes. I put it on with a small brush, like a lip brush and clean up around with a cotton bud.

Bellaboot · 02/03/2025 08:31

Another refectocil here, I've done them for many years. However I'm blond and I use dark brown, leave it on for 5 mins and do once a week or fortnight. Fades very quickly though.

UpUpUpU · 02/03/2025 08:38

I use eylure and have done for years. It’s cheap and cheerful and I mix a bit extra and colour my greys around my temples

coralsky · 02/03/2025 09:22

Just for men beard dye is cheap and very effective, I've used it for years.
It does go dark so get the lightest shade if you're fair.
I use an angled make up brush to apply it then tidy up with a cotton bud as it dues the skin underneath too

mommybear1 · 02/03/2025 11:50

I tried the just for men following some recommendations on here and quickly realised the dye is essentially the same as the dye I use for my hair (Koleston Perfect) spoke to my hairdresser who agreed - so since then I use my hair dye on my eyebrows when I dye my hair.
