Trainers on a drinks date - a no no?

I’m putting myself out there after being (happily) single for more than 5 years and have a Hinge date on Friday so thinking about outfit choices.. If I was going out with my friends I would wear black trousers, vest top or cardi and Samba copies, but are trainers a no go for a date?! I feel like the trousers make the outfit dressier, plus nice jewellery, make up etc.

My other option would be black skinnies and black chunky boots but I’d need to order a nice blouse to go with them - so inspo would be appreciated. I don’t get next day delivery here so I’m limited to Next and M&S 🥲

TIA ☺️

Wear the trainers.

Trainers are fine, have a fab time.

I wouldn’t wear trainers for a drinks date … I’d see it as low effort.

Wear the trainers.

Definitely wear the trainers. I doubt that your date will even notice what you have on your feet (and you may need to make a quick exit).

I think black skinnies, boots and then a nice blouse sounds best! I work at one of those shops and there’s some great choices at the moment

I think it depends on the venue.
If it's casual I'd go with the trainers.
Both outfits soound great though.

HelenCurlyBrown · 24/02/2025 22:25

Wear the trainers. The last thing you want to appear is too dressed up.

AltitudeCheck · 24/02/2025 22:25

If it's the kind of bar that you'd usually wear trainers to with your friends then I wouldn't change from your normal style to meet a date. If he is negatively influenced by your footwear then he wasn't worth a second date anyway!

NormasArse · 24/02/2025 22:26

Go as you. If you’d normally wear trainers- wear them!

FinallyHere · 24/02/2025 22:32

I certainly wouldn't be buying anything new for a first date. It's about finding out whether you are right for each other, isn't it.

Wear what you would normally wear.

mummytalking · 24/02/2025 22:37

Depends, trainers are so fashionable now, everyone wears them. I see young women in great outfits like a smart blazer, nice shirt, jeans and trainers and glam it up with accessories. It can look really nice.

NotVeryFunny · 24/02/2025 23:11

Wear what you want. If your date doesn't like it then they are not the person for you.

One of the reasons I really like my DH is because we are.trainer people and he wouldn't be seen dead in jeans and shoes 🤮.

TheOGCCL · 25/02/2025 09:06

The trainer outfit sounds perfect for smart casual.
