please help.

I have DH's grandma's funeral this week, and am in a slight panic about clothes for the elder two girls and me.

there is no 'dress code', just something in keeping with the sombre mood, but for my two elder girls, they have nothing.

I don;t really think they need to wear black, but smart is needed obviously......but.....also something they will and can wear again.

they are not dress wearing girls, both prefer jeans or dancing type clothing. the last smart thing they both had was for a wedding and was very trendy.....not suitable now......and those outfits were hard enough to find.

I don;t want to traipse around, and I don;t want to take them either (I know sizes etc to fit so they won;t need to try on!).

please can you help track something down and tell me the bast places to try......budget is not huge, about £50 for them both maximum please.

so.....no dresses, no white and navy in one outfit (school colours....they won;t wear it again), and nothing that will look like waitresses or as tho they are in a type of school uniform.

DD1 is in age 13 clothes, or if poss, sz4 adult.

DD2 is in age 11 clothes.

now me.........help.......all my stuff that would be ok is in sz 10 or 12....I am now an 8 or 6 depending on shop. I am 5ft 4 too, so don;t carry loong well.

I cannot wear heels anymore either, so even if the clothes fit, I couldn;t wear them as most of my old stuff was long to go over heels.....obviously now would drown me!!!

budget of £50 - £100....I have some ballet style flats in black already, or more shoes will be needed too if they don;t go.

I know that this may seem trivial, stressing about clothing for a funeral......it should be easy....black! but I want to know that we are as turned out as grandma would have been and she was one very smart tidy lady who took great care in how she looked and was always commmenting on how we looked and how it made her so proud.

for the girls, why don't you send them in school uniform if it is smart

Mercy · 10/05/2008 17:06

Skirt for dd1??

Do you a Tammy Girl or a Dorothy Perkins near you? I noticed a few size 4's the ohter day (in the petite section which would do for you too)

Mercy · 10/05/2008 17:07

Ignore my link - its £32 fgs!

Psychomum5 · 10/05/2008 17:09

@ the price, that would be perfect for her too!!!

if DD2 gets something cheaply tho, I may be able to stretch to it.....no idea tho really if I should

I wouldn't consider either of those two skirts suitable for a funeral, sorry

Mercy · 10/05/2008 17:20

The problem is that it's really hard to find black clothes in small/teenage sizes.

What sort of thing are you after Psychomum? I've seen a dress in Miss Selfridge.

I disagree themoon. Funerals tend to fairly relaxed these days IME - I know my own grandmother wouldn't have expected anyone to be uncomfortable in their outfit. And why shouldn't girls look pretty?

Psychomum5 · 10/05/2008 17:26

themoon.....nor me really, but my MIL has said she want s them in something that is 'them', but smart, and something that they will wear again.

it is hard....I don;t want them in full black, nor jeans or trousers, (well, maybe trousers??), but also, nothing to bright and loud IYGWIM.

my boys are going to be in striped shirts and navy trousers.....they are easy.

DD3 is going in a pretty red dress and a black cardie.....again, something she has in, is suitable for a 9yo, and the dress is one particularly loved by grandma so she want;s to wear it to make her smile.

older DD's tho......hard work.

me.....I would like to wear a dress, but one that will be ok with flats.....the one I have now is perfect, tis just a sz12 and looks like a sack now.

Agree Chippy.

It's going be hard enough for the girls as it is, they should at least feel ok about what they are wearing.

I'll link the dress for you anyway Miss Selfridge

Anything on ebay?

ChippyMinton · 10/05/2008 17:28

or this

my links may be a bit um..loud?

Psychomum5 · 10/05/2008 17:31

lapin....matalan and primark are miles apart, and I have no time to go on a trek.

today the girls have ballet medal tuition, tomorrow DH has to work in tne morning and then the family are all coming to us for a roast, so I don;t want to shop then.....monday is ok to shop, tuesday I am going to the register (sp?) office with MIL to help her register the death, weds I can shop, thursday is the funeral..

in amongst all that there are flowers to arrange, plus balloons as I want the children to release them with pictures on for grandma after the wake.

I really would like to just be able to go to castlepoint near me, go into a shop, and just buy something.....no thought involved and just small effort of paying.

mercy....first link is more 'me', altho a tad low cut maybe.....not wanting to cause blushing from DH (I may be short and teeny size, but I have a good cleavage!)

patterns on me.......not sure.....scare me, but then, I am not always adventurous.

oh, and the other dresses need heels I think.....I can;t wear heels yet still

OP posts:
Psychomum5 · 10/05/2008 17:37

I can do debenhams.....b'mouth is ok, as long as I just have b'mouth IYGWIM.

one stop shopping.....different shops, in one place!!!

OP posts:
Mercy · 10/05/2008 17:39

I've just googled Castlepoint - there's loads of shops to choose from but realise you'll need to know exactly what you are after. H&M aren't online are they?

EffiePerine · 10/05/2008 17:39

Could you wear the v-neck one with a pretty white cami top? Would relieve the black a little as well

Psychomum5 · 10/05/2008 17:39

right......I am thinking skirts would be perfect for the DD's.....they are not dressy types, but they will wear skirts IYGWIM.

I like dresses tho......just, I have no clue over what suits me anymore....shape has changed and I am living in jeans and cropped trousers nowadays!

Psychomum5 · 10/05/2008 17:40
