please help.

I have DH's grandma's funeral this week, and am in a slight panic about clothes for the elder two girls and me.

there is no 'dress code', just something in keeping with the sombre mood, but for my two elder girls, they have nothing.

I don;t really think they need to wear black, but smart is needed obviously......but.....also something they will and can wear again.

they are not dress wearing girls, both prefer jeans or dancing type clothing. the last smart thing they both had was for a wedding and was very trendy.....not suitable now......and those outfits were hard enough to find.

I don;t want to traipse around, and I don;t want to take them either (I know sizes etc to fit so they won;t need to try on!).

please can you help track something down and tell me the bast places to try......budget is not huge, about £50 for them both maximum please.

so.....no dresses, no white and navy in one outfit (school colours....they won;t wear it again), and nothing that will look like waitresses or as tho they are in a type of school uniform.

DD1 is in age 13 clothes, or if poss, sz4 adult.

DD2 is in age 11 clothes.

now me.........help.......all my stuff that would be ok is in sz 10 or 12....I am now an 8 or 6 depending on shop. I am 5ft 4 too, so don;t carry loong well.

I cannot wear heels anymore either, so even if the clothes fit, I couldn;t wear them as most of my old stuff was long to go over heels.....obviously now would drown me!!!

budget of £50 - £100....I have some ballet style flats in black already, or more shoes will be needed too if they don;t go.

I know that this may seem trivial, stressing about clothing for a funeral......it should be easy....black! but I want to know that we are as turned out as grandma would have been and she was one very smart tidy lady who took great care in how she looked and was always commmenting on how we looked and how it made her so proud.

are you very posh or very religious? I have been to lots of funerals and have never been at one where everyone wears all black. mostly dark colours of course, but lots of beige grey navy and dark brown. just smart everyday clothes in sombre colours really, not dressy like a wedding

at DS funeral, the men mostly wore suits and teh younger men / boys , a shirt and tie. i wore a black work jacket and black maternity trousers ( i was pg) and maternity top in a dark pattern. i didnt buy anything new

dh just wore his work suit - navy or grey not black

most younger women wore trousers and smart top, a bit like office wear.

there was only one person whose clothes i notced and that was a 20 yo relative in a white short very lowc cut strappy sundress . she could have worn a shrug or a cardi

not posh, not religeous in the greatest sense, but grandma was a very 'proper' lady and was certainly aware of respectable clothing....

I do not want low cut to be uncomfortable, but I am not sure high cut loks right on me either!!

black is better in my head, but grey also would be okish.....

am off to sort girls now, if I am able then maybe me, or I will be sobbing about it later!!!!

how did you get on?? what did you get?

BTW i didn't mean that you woudl be likely to wear a low cut dress! Just that the only person i remembered was the one wearing something inappropriate. Otherwise most people just aim to blend in, to look repectful

Psychomum5 · 12/05/2008 16:30

all sorted, I think......

girls have a blouse each, with a belt for DD1.

both have cropped black trousers, so will smart but still in clothes that are 'them' IYGWIM.

I have a dress from Wallis....if I can I will link.

I also have strappy flat sandles as the ballet flats looked too........somehting (flame said so)!!!

I hope I am done, DH will soon tell me otherwise when I show him!

thats good

it all sounds lovely

i hope your dh is complementary. my dh knows better than to comment adversely on clothes issues. one of the secrets of a happy marriage is to stay out of matters that dont concern you.
