Interview outfit

Help needed, please!

last time I had an interview was 10 years ago+ and I was a size 6, wearing beautifully cut skirt suits with a fitted sleeveless blouse.... sigh. Since then have been working from home so working outfits gone from suits to chinos to tracksuits to barely wearing pjs on zoom calls 😂

also have gone up to a size 14-16 and lumpy dumpy and very frumpy.

potentially (hopefully) am applying for new jobs and will be getting interviews soon. I'm so out of the pulse on what to wear. All jobs will be at least hybrid, if not full time, working at the office. One office is an independent school, so needs to be a certain "look" (polished, professional etc)

first things first - what do people wear for interviews rhese days?? And where from? Don't really want to spend hundreds on a suit I may not wear enough. Any other suggestions?

Well, suits are newly fashionable again, post Covid-Slump! But a Really Good Dress would have just as much impact.

People will obviously suggest Next and M and Spencer, or a personal shopping session at J.Lewis - and they’re all viable, cost effective options.

You might browse a few places like:

Studio Nicholson

Cos

Loulou

Toteme

Me and Em

Not necessarily to buy - but just to update your eyes from a decade ago and see if anything inspires your new look.

Aaargh. I've been potentially shortlisted for an interview on Monday. Have no time to order clothes and hope they fit so will need a dash to M&S / next at the weekend / similar shops on a high street.

Can anyone advise if I'm better doing a shift dress type thing? (Oh god, need a new coat, I currently live in a padded gilet on the nursery run), or trousers and a shirt? (But then have a huge wobbly mum tum and think dress would be more flattering?)

Totally not ready for this

I would do wide leg pull on trousers with a nice top and a shortish blazer style jacket. I attach a few photos: I have the top and it’s really flattering but looks smart. All from river island

Plenty of smart dresses at M&S, you can click & collect for next day delivery to a local store if they are online only

Thank you - and these are all "the modern day" interview style?

I can't get my mindset out of a smart fitted suit 🤦🏽‍♀️

I have a pretty formal job and I can’t remember the last time I wore a suit like that or saw anyone else in one

Thank you shiny, and everyone, you're putting my mind at rest!
