Teenage skin - would you recommend Pimple Patches?

DS has break outs and we are mostly managing this with cerave facewash, Benzoyl peroxide at night, cerave moisturiser and Roche posay facial sunscreen.

However he has the odd zit that won't go away and I keep seeing pimple patches advertised

I don't remember these existing when I was a teen..... what are they and would you recommend them?!

DD has star-shaped patches from Superdrug. I couldn't believe it when she wanted to wear them to school, but apparently it's A Thing.

I have no idea whether they work or not as DD's skin is fine, she just wants to join the trend. They come in different types, so I just bought her the hydrocolloid ones that work like a blister plaster. There are others with tea tree or salicylic acid, which I imagine would actually help.

DD just uses hydrocolloid plasters overnight - cheaper and work better in my opinion as they’re bigger + thicker. They work really well, especially if you put some thick moisturiser on the spot before placing the plaster. The star shaped ones etc are a trend but don’t really do anything in terms of helping the acne.

Thanks @SlaveToAGoldenRetriever where do you get them from? Or is there a brand you recommend?

Sally Hughes in the guardian today, she rates them. https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2025/feb/21/visible-pimple-patches-saving-teenage-blushes

I buy the Inkey List ones and they are amazing. The gunk they can extract must be seen to be believed.

The Original Mighty Patches are really good OP, I can recommend them as they do actually work.

I love them, wish they'd been around when I was a teenager many moons ago. I use the Hero ones Sali mentions and also Dots for Spots.

TheMousePipes · 22/02/2025 17:07

We have dots for spots - they’re brilliant.

AliceMcK · 22/02/2025 17:10

My DDs use them and they seem to work. They are definitely fashionable with tweens/teens at the moment.

Thanks everyone. I will purchase some for him.

Poor kid. He is not yet 13.

I don't think he and his friends discuss anything like this so we are just doing what my friend recommends based on her teenage girls!!!
