Scrumptious Perfume Required

Hi

I have several formals coming up and Im in a perfume rut and I thought the lovely all knowing ladies on these threads could help.

Im quite eclectic in taste; I either like a fragrance or don’t.

Previous enjoyable (mostly) scents have included:-

Christian Dior Hypnotic Poison (loved this one)
Chanel No 5 (no longer fussed about)
Chanel Allure (so so)
Liz Earle No 100 & No 15 (not formal enough)
Tom Ford Orchid
Burberry My Burberry Black (like this one)
Ralph Lauren Ralph Lauren (like this one)
Victoria Beckham Portofino ‘97 (ok’ish)

I recently tested Tom Ford Cafe Rose, however for the first time ever I had an adverse reaction; developed a migraine and my face flushed terribly.

Id like something a little bit sultry, spicy and dare I say seductive?

What are your suggestions?

Photo for interest …

Based on quite a few on your list, I think you might like Dior Addict. I've gone back to it many times.

Otherwise, YSL Black Opium, or for a fresher / lighter vibe, Penhaligons Luna.

Do you like / have you tried oud? Molton Brown Rose Dunes is good one. - see if you find it sultry. You wont smell it on every second person.

Always get complimented when wearing these :
Floral Street Ylang Ylang nespresso
D and G The One
Molton Brown Heavenly Gingerlilly

I really rate Floral Street perfumes. At the moment you can get a selection of samples of their best sellers for £20 and try a few. My personal favourite is Wild Vanilla Orchid.

I think Givenchy L'interdit Rouge is quite seductive/sexy, I would say its a night time fragrance for me. Its quite heavy on the tuberose and spice so it's not for everyone though.

@Haselnuss @Postboxwatcher Im going to try to source a sample! Thank you x

@PrincessHoneysuckle I've never heard of that one before!

I'm finding that stores or websites will not send samples out. It's tough if you're trying to find something to suit that is not one of the mass produced scents.

I don't mind paying for sampler sets but not every one does them.

Jean Paul Gaultier Gaultier Divine
YSL Libre

pinkchampagne1 · 24/02/2025 08:33

I also love L'interdit and Delina. I like Portrait of a Lady too but it is a strong scent and people seem to either love it or hate it. My friend got it on an advent and didn’t like it at all so passed it to me. 😃

Penhaligon Halfeti, but test it first as it smells so different on others.
I apply about 2 hours before I go out to let it settle, always get amazing comments.

Edited

This is what I'm wearing atm. Love it.

Hermes 24 Faubourg for me, it's the only scent I've ever been complimented on

BuntyBeaufort · 24/02/2025 14:34

I've just had a couple of samples, less than £5 each, from The Essence Vault.
Number 565 is a dupe of Frederick Malle's Portrait of a Lady, and I love it. Rich and sophisticated (wish I was!).
They do sample sets too, and the individual little bottles are perfect for holidays/handbags.

EvelynBeatrice · 24/02/2025 14:45

@Idontjetwashthefucker I love 24 Faubourg too. It smells so differently on different people and in the heat and cold that you need not fear smelling the same as everyone else.

Haselnuss · 25/02/2025 08:03

@TheRealHousewife you're welcome, I hope you are able to get some samples, in the past I have bought perfume samples on ebay of perfumes I have been desperate to smell. Also if you are near to one I found John Lewis the best for giving free samples if you have a chat with the assistant in the perfume department.
