Are skirt suits not a thing any more? Help!

I have a wedding coming up in May and finding options extremely limited thanks to breastfeeding. I'd thought of maybe a co-ord top + skirt, or blazer / short skirt suit combo, but they don't seem to exist any more.

Are these not a thing?! What could I wear instead?! Am I old and dated?!

Help!!

Skirt suits have not been fashionable for 35 years! Could you try a button up shirt dress? Or a top tucked into a midi/maxi skirt?

I used to wear skirt suits to work. You'd get a jacket and could have matching skirt and/or trousers and/or shift dress. It was a smart look.

I like mango option number three by the past poster.. you could style with colourful accessories to make it more wedding-y.

mitogoshigg · 19/02/2025 21:30

Next usually have suits. Dd bought them for work from there a couple of years back

sorry not skirt suit but have you had a look at Juno jacks (breastfeeding brand) dresses to see if you like any of these? junojacks.co.uk/collections/dresses

I have, thank you! I find the side zip a bit revealing to be honest. Nosy baby and there won't be anywhere quiet to go so hoping to be able to wear a top to pull up for some coverage!

Suppose I like myself in a shorter skirt and like myself in a blazer lol but maybe the combo would age me!

My friend and I recently attended an event where she was breastfeeding and wore the Lyra dress from Lady Vintage:

Looked fab and made breastfeeding easy for her.

Wow those dresses are stunning!!! Bookmarking for when I finally have money to spend on myself :) x
Also, op, I love a skirt suit!! You'll find something x

Thanks everyone for the help! Spotted lots of top / skirt co - ords in Primark today so wondering if that means they may be making a comeback as I'd initially thought of that sort of thing but v little out there.
Has anyone seen any nice ones?

I think skirt suits are still a thing. It's just that since log down attire generally has become more casual. So, fewer suits, fewer skirt suits. Plus more women are opting for trousers in the colder weather. I bought an amazing multi functional suit in Paris some years ago which still sees the light of day. It came with a jacket (obviously), matching trousers (they rarely see the light of day I'm not a frequent trouser wearer), matching skirt and a matching sleeveless dress. So you had 3 different outfits in one. I wish more manufacturers would have cottoned on to this.

@StarlightLady who was this by?
Sounds like a brilliant idea.

Iloveshihtzus · 19/02/2025 22:36

Hi OP, go to Zara and select Co-ords and you will get over 100 options.

You can then narrow by colour etc.

babystep · 19/02/2025 23:23

They are definitely around - in fact a coming trend according to The Times
https://www.thetimes.com/life-style/fashion/article/the-return-of-the-miniskirt-suit-plus-5-more-trends-to-know-now-6zn7srd66 (not sure if share token will work)

The article suggests Zara and H&M, but you won't find them by searching for a suit cos are usually sold as separates - eg this skirt has a matching jacket but you need to spot it in the picture and then the links below https://www.zara.com/uk/en/fringed-check-knit-skirt-p04331005.html?v1=419885715&v2=2420447

Zara
Zara but possibly too bridal
Zara a skort not skirt - colour is lovely I think

I think a skirt suit would be really fab for a wedding and you'd feel on trend/interesting rather than being in a dress which might feel a bit more predictable.

My only thought would be make sure the thing under the jacket is still easy for boob access, and these boxy jackets wouldn't give much shelter if you wanted to coverup while feeding so you might want a scarf in your bag to throw over as needed

babystep · 19/02/2025 23:36

Also have you considered renting an outfit?
Wrong size but something like this could be fab with heels
springlike colours
skirt and top you could add a structured cardi for the ceremony

squishee · 20/02/2025 00:02

Teamustbefromateapot · 19/02/2025 12:00

I have done this for a few things, but after 4 years consecutive feeding (3 kids), I am desperate for something different lol!

How about a bolero over your top instead of a cardie? They look more smart and streamlined, especially the tie front ones. They are also easier to put on and take off - no buttons.

Thanks for this. I love the vibe of these, maybe just a little too warm for a may wedding 🤔. I'm maybe too early to be looking! It's so hard to balance some sort of ability to be discrete (not necessary I know, just my preference) and feel stylish rather than frumpy at the same time!

If you don't mind second hand have a look on ebay.

Also what about a shorts suit?

Doggymummar · 20/02/2025 09:17

Have a look on Whatnot, they have dedicated vintage auctions. I bought a load of Top Shop and Miss Selfridge last weekend

Grammarnut · 20/02/2025 09:39

We used to call 'skirt suits' costumes (as opposed to trouser suits). They were infinitely variable, since a variety of tops could go over the skirt, which could be worn without the jacket (but beware of skirt wearing out first!) or more formally with the jacket. I would not think a skirt and jacket ideal for breastfeeding though. A dress which discreetly undid from waist or by wrap-over might be better?
