Bag for Extreme Day Trip

I'm very excited because after months of nagging persuasion I've finally persuaded DH to leave the kids with my mum and do an extreme day trip this weekend! We're off to Paris for the day on Saturday and I am beside myself.

I've worked out what I'm going to wear (thermals and layers lol) but I'm stumped as to what bag to take. I'm not planning to take much - phone, charger, passport, lip balm, debit card is basically all - but my options are a one shoulder handbag (which will be annoying) or a smallish back pack (still too large). We'll be doing a LOT of walking so I want something that's not going to flap about/annoy me.

What I think I really need is a decent cross body bag but I don't know where to start. I also need to be able to get it delivered before Friday (won't be near any shops beforehand). Any ideas/recommendations please?

Travelon Women's Anti-Theft Tailored Convertible Crossbody Clutch Cross Body Bag, Onyx, One Size : Amazon.co.uk: Fashion - comfortable, anti theft/pickpocket and can fit all you listed above in. And it can get here tomorrow. Have a great time!

Ask anyone you know if they've got one of these you can borrow

Sorry to divert, but what is extreme about it? You can buy really tiny backpacks like the kind you might take to a rave!

Travelon bags are good but it doesn't siund like you even need it to be sturdy as you're not taking much.

I agree with the Uniqlo bags + I'd probably take a tote bag in case of any shopping. But really, I'd probably just take whatever handbag that I'm using on a day-to-day basis at home.

@Huckleberries it's a Facebook phenomenon, going to far flung places for a day. There are lots of groups set up for it. Paris is quite tame by comparison to some and not that extreme at all but it is a toe in the water!

I love a good extreme day trip, hope you have the best time! I normally just take my Ted Baker crossbody (the exact style isn't sold any more) and that's plenty of space. If that's out of budget/not your style I agree the Uniqlo ones are also very good.

@Huckleberries the 'extreme' comes from it being out of the country. Normally it's getting the first flight out in the morning/last flight back at night - so you get a bit of travel/experience a new culture without having to worry about childcare for a whole weekend, or hotels etc.

Paris is definitely my favourite short term hop to be fair, you've picked a good one to start with! 😍

As I was typing cross body bag something in my head was saying Uniqlo, I must have seen them on here before. They look great but I'll never get one in time sadly. Maybe for our next trip!

Tote bag is a great shout as well.

I’d take Tupperware and a bigger rucksack so you can bring bakery items home

Backpacks for the win! I never leave home without mine, you can get so much in them and it leaves your hands and arms free. But I do keep my phone in an inside pocket of my jacket, just in case anyone gets into the rucksack...

delvar · 17/02/2025 19:51

I also agree with a backpack. Great to have hands free. Phone on a lanyard or with cards in an inside pocket or waist bag. Amazon will deliver tomorrow. Search for small backpack.

Have a lovely day.
