Hi all,

I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this John Lewis service?

I have a few events coming up soon and need some inspiration, and I realised as I am now in my 60s I have no clue what to wear. I saw this recently in my local JL, and wondered whether it would be useful?

One event is an evening meal and the other is a big birthday celebration. I am about 5 foot 5 and 12/14 thanks to a tummy that won't go away, although I am well inside my BMI, if anyone has any ideas as well.

I WFH every day so spend my life in jeans and leggings!

Thank you in advance.

I've had some very good experiences with the stylists there and one not so great one. I reckon it's worth a try, they can be very good at finding things which work for you and if you don't like anything then you don't have to buy.

Thank you @thehorsesareallidiots, maybe I will have a go!

Yes, but for my DH not me. She was fantastic really got what he needed, wasn't pushy at all and the selections were of all different types of budget as well.

Thank you @ranoutofquinoaandprosecco good to hear 😀

It’s a very civilised way to shop, too - cups of tea and an armchair while they scurry about the shop finding things for you to try on!

thesandwich · 16/02/2025 18:42

I’ve had great experiences for me and dd(who detests shopping) give them a very clear steer on your likes/ dislikes.

Summerhillsquare · 16/02/2025 18:46

Yes, I see the same one from time to time, she is great, not pushy or judgemental. I have several things that suit me that I wouldn't have considered left to my own devices.

Catsandcheese · 16/02/2025 18:50

I think my issue is I don't really know what I like any more but I really like the sound of somebody else doing the legwork for me 😀
Can I bring my husband or my daughter or would that be a no-no?

I thought it was very worthwhile. I tried on clothes I wouldn't have looked at otherwise and it all seemed to "work". Absolutely no pressure to buy and it certainly raised my style score! (and my clothes budget....)

Catsandcheese · 16/02/2025 18:58

Oh this might be really helpful for me then.
Thank you all very much 😀

I booked a slot for me and dd for wedding outfits. Put all your info on the booking form

I wasn't too impressed with it. Ultimately, they can only suggest clothes that they have in-store at John Lewis, so you could just as easily take a friend and try a load of stuff on - without the (no pressure) pressure of the personal shopper wanting you to like it and buy it. I did not come away with any style revelations - other than, nobody knows me better than me, and that there is a world beyond John Lewis. For you, I'd suggest maybe going to an independent occasionwear shop - they are probably very used to a customer in your situation, they'll have more stylish and special outfits, and they might offer hire options too, which could give you more flexibility and stretch your budget further.

Catsandcheese · 17/02/2025 06:56

Thanks, @thesandwich I have now booked and done just that.

@Greenfencebrowntree thanks for the feedback, if my appointment doesn't go well, I will look to an independent shop.

Thank you everyone 😀
