Could this work for a wedding?

I have a hotel based wedding, late April. I have one dress and would really like not to have to buy anything new for it. Do you think with some accessories it could work or, is it too summer holiday, white trainers and denim jacket looking?

I have jewellery and a cream clutch bag. Not sure on shoes though.

It’s a hotel wedding but not a big 5 star grand wedding.

World’s prettiest dress:

Sister Jane

Which as you see is pretty much the same colour and shape as your Next dress. And denim - so perfectly wearable for fish suppers … You could buy this and wear it for the next twenty years.

Ineffable23 · 16/02/2025 08:34

What about the suit trousers, with the cobalt silk blouse and a blazer?

Rugbyterms · 16/02/2025 08:45

I am just heading out to take dc to rugby. I will come back. Meantime, this is my trouser suit that I have from JL.

This is the closest I can see for the cobalt shirt. It’s from Zara. Cobalt blue obviously and silk. I think this one is satin.

feels a bit going to work if worn together rather than wedding.

thank you for the links. I will definitely look.

Navy and cream sounds a bit too much like work wear. What about the suit with a contrasting (pink?) top and accessories to make it look less like office wear? Hot pink or baby pink could work.

ColdHenrietta · 16/02/2025 09:00

Okay …

Your navy jacket, @Rugbyterms, with these

Kemi Telford palazzo pants

Perfection!

Just to add, the beauty of the palazzo pants for you is that they would balance your top half - whilst flattering long legs. And of course you could wear them for any and anything outside work.

(Also they could easily be shortened if necessary.)

Do look at the rest of the site - it may well offer new options for you. Even dresses!

Turnthelightoff · 16/02/2025 09:09

Do you have any dress agencies nearby? They often stock great pre owned wedding guest outfits but let you try on. The staff are often very helpful and knowledgeable. If you bought from them you might even be able to re-sell after the event.

SnoopysHoose · 16/02/2025 09:16

The Monsoon suggestions look fab, navy trouser suit is too interview.
@ColdHenrietta that is not the prettiest dress, it's clunky and dull as is most on that site

ColdHenrietta · 16/02/2025 09:28

Guess we all see things differently, @SnoopysHoose! In truth I doubt it’s what the OP would choose - I was merely pointing out that if she can wear the Next dress happily there’s scope for her to enjoy many others that are a variation of that.

I love Sister Jane’s designs, especially in cotton. I’ve seen Monsoon dresses I like - but not those above.

Boobsallgone21 · 16/02/2025 09:28

@ColdHenrietta just had a look at that dress. I absolutely love it !! Thank you and I will be ordering asap. I know I’m not the op !!

RuthW · 16/02/2025 09:28

Absolutely fine with a nice jacket, colourful or metallic shoes and bag and a matching fascinator

Flamingoknees · 16/02/2025 10:08

Can you not wear your suit, heels, and silk shirt? The dress isn't suitable, despite being lovely. A think a suit would be fine.

Yes, this. OP, I know you said you felt it was a bit like going to work, but what about if you wore the blouse a bit more open than you'd wear for work? A statement necklace, earrings and a bangle and a contrasting bag and shoes. Hot pink would look great or maybe emerald green. No need to spend a fortune.

dorathexplorer · 16/02/2025 10:51

You don't need to spend a fortune. What is it they say " buy the dress and create the occasions" ? Both of these less than 50.

I think it's absolutely fine and very nice. Wear it with tights, nice shoes, a clutch and a jacket of some sort.

It's far nicer and more appropriate than some of the dresses put on her with "is this alright for a wedding". It's modest, discreet and lovely.

Birdy65 · 16/02/2025 11:00

Try looking on the website Scarlett and Jo. There are some midi dresses in the clearance/sale section, perfect for a wedding.
These dresses sell well on vinted if you want to sell it after the event. There may be one for sale on there too.

Love this, I might order this. Thanks for sharing ☺️

Each to their own but I thought the Monsoon dresses were awful. I'd happily wear the OP's dress to a wedding. I'm sure I could brighten it up with maybe shocking pink shoes and dramatic costume jewellery. The Monsoon dresses are in the category of I'd refuse to leave the house wearing them.

The Sister Jane dress is lovely. The OP's dress is fine for a wedding. The trouser suit options look like job interview outfits.

RosesAndHellebores · 16/02/2025 12:04

I agree with with IHave above.

if some of you think the op's dress is a holiday dress, you must have some very smart holidays.

I'd wear that dress to work with birkies on a hot day and am a Director or with tidy heels to a fundraising dinner. I'm going to order it. It's great.

Thankfully my workplace rocks Mary Beard rather than the Kardashians.

JackieGoodman · 16/02/2025 12:11

Looks fine to me, its a dress Grin (unless you are the bride, obv)
My wedding was hotel based and a couple of ladies wore trousers and a nice top, others wore all sorts of dresses, some causal, some more dressy. If you feel comfortable it will be fine.

Katrinawaves · 16/02/2025 12:21

The cobalt blue shirt sounds beautiful.

Could you perhaps pick up some wide legged cream trousers to wear with them and use your cream clutch bag? Maybe on Vinted if you have time and you could relist afterwards if you wouldn’t get much use out of them? Or these are under £40 but look nicely cut.

ChannelFiveDrama · 16/02/2025 12:36

Set strict search parameters on Vinted and ask for new with tags or unworn. You will definitely find something I am sure.

Plantymcplantface · 16/02/2025 13:39

The plazzo pants are lovely in theory and I want want want some - but I’m 5ft 6. I think they may be too much if OP is shorter.

the cobalt shirt and jacket with a pretty skirt though? Skirt length and style to suit you @Rugbyterms ?

Doggymummar · 16/02/2025 13:48

I was on Whatnot last night and they had an auction of prom dresses From simple shift dresses, to fancy pants dresses, going from £3. I bought a load to sell on but it's worth a look.
