Bumbag yes or no

When i went on holiday years ago i always used a bumbag round my waist to hold my money. Rhey then went out of fashion and people i knew used a cross body shoulder bag instead. Ive just googled bumbags and now you can get them that you wear across the body. Are they still popular? Which would you use? A cross body bumbag or a cross body handbag

I use a bumbag, I've got a nude Nike one. No idea if they are fashionable but I don't care, I like it.

Lifestooshort71 · 16/02/2025 04:03

I use a selection of Uniqlo cross-body bags (now cheap as chips at Primark). I've developed quite a tummy and found a bum bag awkward to wear whereas a cross-body is more amenable to being inside/outside jacket, etc.

I've got bumbags - the lululemon ones are especially good, you can wear them crossbody or around the waist. Tbh they're mega popular on days out / holidays when I've been!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 16/02/2025 07:47

Bum bags worn over the shoulder are very popular atm.

MabelMoo23 · 16/02/2025 07:56

I’ve got a Lulu Lemon bum bag I wore to Disney World last year - it was a god send.

but so many people wearing them so they are clearly back in!

PerkyOchrePeer · 16/02/2025 08:09

I've seen pictures online of people wearing bum bags across the body and I think it looks really stupid and if I were to wear anything across the body it would be a proper across the body handbag and a bum bag I would only wear round my waist

Who cares if they are in fashion or not! If they’re useful and safe that’s all I care about!

mitogoshigg · 16/02/2025 13:30

People do, I think they look ridiculous (i remember them the first time around, see also grey jogging bottoms, track suits etc. my choice Grin)

I have a cross body big enough for sunscreen, water bottle, book etc

I’m a long time bum bag fan as I find a lot of bags unwieldy and I travel light. These days I would wear the style as cross body. It’s the best of both worlds as, for casual, neither a bum bag or a cross body are exactly in, but the hybrid is. That crescent/sling shape is everywhere and you can get leather or leather look as well. Very secure as right in front of you.

These are brilliant and extra safe. I bought 4 - for myself and 3 teenagers.

I'm a flibbertigibbet who enjoys fashion. If I'm going to a place where pickpocketing is rife, I use a bumbag.

delvar · 16/02/2025 13:47

I tried the bumbag in crossbody mode. Nope, far too high up on me and I look like a contortionist trying to get something out of it. I know I can adjust the straps but then it hangs floppily lol. Not for me, and neither are the real bumbags worn around the waist either.

I just use a crossbody small, flat, soft real or fake leather and that works for me. There are some you can get that are tamper proof etc. If travelling in pickpocket hotspots I wear it under a jacket or overshirt. In really awkward places, I have a couple of bras that have flaps in the cups (sorry for the vague description!), they're not special just the design, and I put cash notes in one flap and a spare card in the other is very reassuring for me anyway.

henlake7 · 16/02/2025 14:49

I really like the Uniqlo cross body ones, Id probably go for one of those.
Although I do use a bumbag when Im running as I carry too much crap around with me!

Bet it’s interesting, delving around in your brain, when you are paying for something!

I have white stuff's Sebby Mini. It's great for taking on holiday where you only have an underseat bag and need to stuff your handbag in it

Breadcat24 · 16/02/2025 16:00

no

wooliegloves · 16/02/2025 16:24

They aren't super fashionable anymore to wear as a day bag but they are practical. I still wear one for certain days out eg theme park.

DramaAlpaca · 16/02/2025 16:26

I'd wear a bumbag on holiday when I don't much care about fashion.

I absolutely wouldn't in my normal daily life.

wooliegloves · 16/02/2025 16:28

I have this one in a different colour

LOL at what I hope is a typo for BRA 😊

And no, I wouldn't go rummaging in there for cash/card, that would be in private and only in an emergency, like if someone robbed my Safe Bag, you know the one on my chest/hip/bum ha ha.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 16/02/2025 18:24

Small cross body bag every time. They feel much more secure than a bum bag.

Yes- that was a good one for me!
Actually I have considered those bras with pockets but knowing me it would drop out, and land in the loo!
