What footwear with wide leg cords for dressy occasions?

I’m going to the ballet this weekend (afternoon matinee so not remotely formal) and want to wear a cream silk blouse with burgundy wide leg cords. Ordinarily I’d wear trainers but if I wanted to go smarter what would you suggest? I have at my disposal ballet flats in either black leather or tan suede, Isabel Marant black ankle boots (a thick western heel or a stiletto option) or black suede shoes with heels which are slim but not stiletto. Or would my Adidas Superstars be ok? I’ve tried the heels but they seem too early 00’s/reminiscent of the old “jeans and a nice top” days! But that might also be due to my spending the entire winter wearing almost exclusively trainers!

I'd have suggested the heels (sighs in wistful nostalgia at jeans-and-nice-top!), so if that's ruled out then I'd go with tan suede ballet flats. Enjoy the matinee!

Went to the ballet recently in London, also a matinee. People weren't that dressed up at all.

I'd go for Adidas Superstars.

I have a similar pair of trousers and haven’t been able to convince myself that they work with any of my boots! And my ballet flats almost look too delicate with them. I have a pair of black suede chunky loafers with a gold chain thing on top of them that I wear with mine and that seems to balance them out the best so would maybe say your black suede shoes.

Trainers. Heels will look odd.

Thanks for the advice everyone 😊. Decided on trainers because it’s pouring with rain. I’ve also switched the silk blouse to a cashmere knit. Much warmer!
