Foundation needed

I don't have a decent foundation. The foundation I have isn't the right colour and goes cakey (despite using primer). Any recommendations?

I definitely want to try it in a shop first, or get sample colours to test before buying (this was my mistake last time as bought off thr Internet after seeing a convincing Facebook advert!). I have combination skin but my worst thing is dryness sland foundations going cakey. I'm blonde and reasonably fair skinned (not super pale). I tend to apply with a sponge but would change methods for the right foundation. Not too fussed about cost as long as not insane (I'm happy with upto around £50 a bottle for the 'right' foundation). Would be willing to pay for a consultation except not sure where to go (and last consultation I went to, years ago, was rubbish - she tested it on the back of my hand which is a common rookie error, then sold me one way too pale, likely because my hands are paler than my face, which looked awful and cakey).

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Lisa Eldridge is great IMO.
Not sold everywhere though. I believe their on line support is good.
I found it in a local Space NK shop and bought the foundation and the skin tint

Nars
Pat McGrath

I've heard someone else mention Nars too. Thanks.

I like Space NK. They sell the only mascara I've ever found that doesn't smudge badly around my eyes!

Estee Lauder is great, if you can go to a counter in store and they will colour match you and show you how to apply it

Mac face and body is my all time favourite. Great value too compared to other brands where the sizes are are getting small and smaller. It’s light but build able so not cakey and great for dry skin.

Estée Lauder Double Wear. Between £30-£35. Great coverage and not Carey looking. Would revoke

Was going to say would recommend buying the pump top that is reusable for any subsequent bottles.

Georgio Armani Luminous Silk is excellent. I bought some samples off e-bay to get the right shade.

I would highly recommend YSL All Hours Foundation.

Sassybooklover · 13/02/2025 21:35

Estée Lauder Double Wear is fantastic. My friend is a make-up artist, and recommended it. If you go to a large department store with an Estée Lauder counter, they will do a colour match, and give you a sample.

Thanks - think I'll try to book a makeup trial session at a Mac store!

I love Boots No 7 Stay Perfect in Calico

I prefer to apply with my fingers

I apply a moisturiser and leave it for at least 10 minutes before applying foundation

I tend to apply my make up in the car because I like to leave early to get a parking space so I apply moisturiser before I go

I tried Nars - didn't like it but it might suit your skin as it's drier than mine

I used to wear more higher end foundations like Clarins, Lancôme and Dior but tried this and the formula and colour is perfect for me

You could apply a facial oil before your foundation I know that MUAs do this
