Help! How to dress for a 90s themed brunch when you are nearly 50yo

Am off to a 90s brunch in London in a few weeks time and have no idea what to wear! I feel too old at nearly 50 to wear the clothes I actually wore back in the 90s, but do want to make an effort as it’s quite a dressy place with live music as well. Am petite (5’2), hourglass/pear shaped, short torso/longer legs and boobs so need to wear a proper bra. Don’t tend to show cleavage off but don’t mind a mini skirt/dress. ‘True/dark/cool summer’ colouring but happy to wear black. Would really appreciate any ideas. I know I could just do jeans and a nice top (which I have already) but I’d like to feel like I’ve made a proper effort as I don’t get out much!

Oh usually a size 6/XS - sometimes 4/XXS in vanity size places.

Satin midi skirt with a chunky jumper?
Flares or combats with a pretty top?
Bias cut dress over a T shirt? (Extra points if it's a Ghost dress.) Or a shorter, 'flippy' dress.
Dr Martens or kitten heels? (Or flip flops but maybe not in March!)

They're just some of my favourite outfits that I remember from the 90s and which have become current again in the last few years so wouldn't, I don't think, look out of place or too 'fancy dress'. They should also be reasonably easy to source on todays high street.

Edited to add: you can google for ideas of how they're being worn 2025 if you don't want to look like you're still wearing your old clothes!

Jeans (bootcut) and 90s band tee (Nirvana, Radiohead etc) and docs or trainers like Gizelles if you have them. Wear 90s style makeup like Rimmel Heather Shimmer or Black Cherry lipstick if they do it.
Look at Louise Werner from Sleeper as inspiration of what was worn at the time.

OMG I’d forgotten the little dress over a t-shirt! I could do flares with a pretty top, and I have a pair of adidas that could work… Seem to remember going out in little nighties that I bought in Miss Selfridges - I know they are coming back in but I think that’s one trend I’m happy to leave in the past 😂. I do want to be warm but also dressed up (but not too much as it’s an afternoon thing).

I used to wear little pinafore type tartan dresses too with a black t-shirt underneath. Loved them! Don’t want to go too ‘fancy dress’ though - I’d like to feel good in what I’m wearing!

Combat trousers were very 90's, with a chunky belt and a plain vest/t shirt. Also remember lime green tops. White jeans, sweater shop jumpers, cycling shorts.

If you can watch reruns of Friends there'll be lots more outfit ideas. I'm sure I remember Rachel wearing tartan mini skirts a lot.

Combat trousers with a little vest and heels! It’s all coming back to me now 😂. Good call on watching some Friends re-runs too. Do like Rachel’s style!

Do you reckon people dress up for these things? Or do they just wear nice normal outfits?! I have no idea - it’s been an age since I went out out.

Watch Clueless for inspiration too!

Wear a crew neck tshirt, flared leggings, chunky trainers and tie a jumper round your waist 😂.
