Help! My eyes! Lash lift gone wrong

any advice, particularly from beauticians please!

had a lash lift & tint day before holiday. Had many before by a different beautician, had a skin test. Looked good at first.

1st/ 2nd day some stinging and blood shot eyes
3rd woke up to eyes stuck very swollen, stuck together, looked like an allergic reaction but I could hardly see so hard to tell. Managed with ibrophen, 2types antihistamine morning & night, washing gentility with sterile water
4th day swelling stopped getting worse maybe swelling a tiny bit better but I can see now my lashes have continued to curl, they are stuck together and are hard.

does this sound sound like lash tech left product on? Rather than allergic reaction? I’ve contacted the beautification in the mean time

anything I can do to de-clump my lashes and save them falling out?

so sad as I’ve been held up in my room with sore eyes and missed first 4days of my holiday :(

That sounds terrible, have you contacted the person who did it for advice? Take photos.

Jesusisking23 · 13/02/2025 17:52

It does sound like an allergic reaction or possibly an infection if her hands/equipment/area was unclean.

I would get the pharmacist to check you over as it’s hard to say without being able to see

Beauty therapist here, can you take a picture so I can see your lashes? May be over processed, did they sting when you had the solutions on? Where did she do the patch test? Behind ear or on arm?

thank you Rolo, skin test was behind my ear, they did sting and straight after but nothing I was overly concerned about, the redness & swelling didn’t start for at least 24hrs. I’ve been taking ibuprofen & antihistamines for 5days. They feel slightly better today but don’t look much different. It doesn’t feel like an infection, there’s a bit of gritty sleep when I wake up but not during the day and no puss etc : / could be an infection but I’ve never seen the swelling like that with a infection.

First picture is straight after, the lashes are separated and the second is them clumped together. They are hard and I can’t separate them. The swelling looks much worse than in the photo.

would swelling cause the lashes to clump and go hard?

thank you again

Yes they could do, if you eyes are weeping because of a reaction they might be dry and clumping together, if it is a reaction it should start to settle, it doesn’t look like your lashes are over processed as they would look frazzled and zig zaggy, after the swelling has gone down start putting some lash serum oil on them, which will help hydrate, I’m not a medical professional but it doesn’t look like they are infected, but if it doesn’t go you should seek medical advice, do you know anyone that has had conjunctivitis? It does look a little like that, but I would hope the therapists hygiene would have been top notch as insurance and training have strict guidelines, Hope it settles down for you OP it is a bit disheartening when you have a reaction, the patch test was done in the right place, but sometimes as the eyes are much more sensitive a reaction can come at any time.

Thank you, no I don’t know anyone who has conjunctivitis. I had it some years go and I didn’t get the puffy swelling underneath my eye and it felt different. The pharmacist didn’t think it was but I will see another.

it’s been 7 days now since the lift and 5 since I’ve been taking antihistamines etc how long do reactions normally take to resolve?

I think it’s a reaction as mine do this with lash extensions because I’m allergic to the glue. Keep the area clean using clean boiled water and carry on with the anti histamine. Try not to rub the area and it should go down. If it doesn’t go see your GP. When I had a reaction it took 6/7 days to start going down :( xx
