Let's talk nail wraps!

I've decided to take the plunge and start using nail wraps. I'm going for the semi cured ones and a UV lamp. I have also bought a primer and a top coat and I got to wondering. If I used the primer could I put a non cure wrap on top then use the uv top coat to get the same long lasting protection as a semi cure? They seem to be cheaper and prettier designs!

Thanks for your help. Maybe use words of one syllable- I'm all new to this.

Just bumping for the evening crowd.

I use both the uv ones and the non-uv ones. Both are good, the uv ones lasted longer however. I always put a top coat on the non-uv ones as I find it helps them last longer. My nails grow really well with them and there's no damage when I take them off.

Brilliant, thank you. Any tips for removal?

I'm interesting to see what people think of these - I keep seeing these on social media and am tempted, assuming the're not too much of faff.

I just peel them off slowly like stickers - or use an orange stick for the uv ones.

The blue set was the first uv ones I did. The other photo was my nails after I removed the second lot of uv wraps - probably 6 weeks of growth.

Oooh those are pretty! And surprisingly little damage, thank you.

Just seen quick follow up question. If I'm using a gel base coat, then a non uv sticker topped with a gel top coat, do I need a gap round the sticker so the top cost and base coat meet? I know they need to react but does the sticker prevent that?

Absolutely adore them. I’ve been using the ones from Moyu for a year now after years of acrylics from the nail bars. Much cheaper, means I can keep my real nails healthy and no sitting in awkward silence for precious time that I can’t afford. They come off really easily without damaging your own nails. I should probably be on commission. The only drawback is that if you prefer really long nails, they might not work. Mine are long enough for me. Pic attached of my current set (excuse my cuticles and dry red hands - it’s been a housework day!). They’ve been on for nearly 2 weeks, so I’ll need to change them in about 3 days time.

They wrecked my nails so I wouldn't just peel them off. My nails went all flaky and took about 4 months to grow out. Back to long and strong again now and I will probably have to chuck the wraps away.

The uv ones or just the sticker ones?

RaininSummer · 14/02/2025 19:42

Sticker ones.

Sticker ones.

I thought they did no damage? I was going to get them for my dd but won't if they cause problems.

Workisntworking · 14/02/2025 20:03

That's a shame - I was tempted too. 🙁

I use Lily and fox ones with two layers of clear base coat underneath. No need for curing etc.

itsnotabouthepasta · 14/02/2025 20:07

I use MoYou and Holy Gels and they are both fantastic.

littlematchstickgirl · 14/02/2025 20:43

I use non-UV. Base coat, nail wrap and then the most important bit - leave them for an hour or two to harden. Then put the top coat on.

I was putting the top coat on straight away and the edges of the wraps kept curling up. I read somewhere to leave a while, and it works a treat!

The base coat helps protect your nails a bit too.

ChangingHistory · 14/02/2025 21:17

I tried the uv ones but they were very thick. Sure there are plenty of brands to try though.

I buy stickers from lily and fox. Only have short nails so can do 2 applications from one pack by cutting them in half so £1 a go which is fantastic. Last a week and peel off easily after that time. I do also find some of their styles thicker and less stretchy than others.

I like them. I'm not allowed nail polish at work so only put them on for holiday, non-uv ones, which last 1-2 weeks of heavy use. My nails look fine when I first take them off but they definitely arre more brittle and peel for 4-5 weeks after I've used them. So if you wear them continuously I don't think you'd notice the damage but they do damage a little. I even got holy grail's no damage remover and the are still a little damaged. Definitely less damage than gel nails though and they are pretty!

I'm going to try the base coat then wrap and see how it goes.

Binglebong · 15/02/2025 13:20

This is all really useful, thank you. The uv I've tried I'm a bit disappointed with BUT they were cheap ones to learn how to do it. I'll try Holy Grail or My you next time. And definitely trying the tip about leaving an hour or two before the top coat. For now I need to slip in a bit more base on one that has come off....
