Help! Im about to shave my head

coconutdreamxo · 11/02/2025 11:08

❗️Hi girls i am so desperate and its sending me down the hole. How could i manage this type of hair? Its so frizzy and dry regardless of what i use. Its either the weather or me feeling hot/sweating that causes this frizziness. it also feels very dry and rough. Theres no life to it, its dull and flat. My hair is bleach treated, thick, coarse and high porosity.
i honestly tried so many products. Even the dream coat wont help. I use leave ins, oils, masks.. any advice/help appreciated ❤️❤️

I hate to say this but I have just had to accept myself this recently - my hair just cannot cope with being bleached. And I have very different hair to you. But it just cant cope!
I'm currently going through a process of babying it like mad to try and recover from bleach damage and it is working.
Deep conditioning mask every other wash: Garner Hair Food Papaya
Leave in conditioner: Swarzkopf bonacure leave in conditioner - lots of it. Plus a heat protectant if I'm going to blow dry it.
Most important bit: i only try and detangle once the leave in conditioner and/or heat protectant has gone in, and then I do it with my fingers first then a wide tooth comb. I love my tangle teezer but I've got to admit I've seen an improvement without it. Then if my hair needs brushing at any point between washes I do the same, detailed with fingers first then gently combing through. Basically babying my hair. No rough movements, and no brushing if I can help it. Using mousse during a blow dry helps extend the style and I try to go without blow drying too.
Oil: my hair responds to oil way better if I use it when it's dry, it looks oily for a few minutes after but its then much better all day. I do this every day. I do use Kerastase Elixir but you could probably get away with another oil.
You might have tried a lot of this already, so if so apologies!

I stopped bleaching my hair and it is much better, sorry! I had tried loads of products too but my hair was like straw,

Ihatejanuary78 · 11/02/2025 11:28

Do you straighten it?

TheLongRider · 11/02/2025 12:00

I got mine cut into a pixie and never looked back. It's no longer frizzy, easy to style and I gained so much time and far less stress.

DeliciouslyEvil · 11/02/2025 12:02

yeah ,looks like split ends, only solution is to cut them

maybe a shorter style and stop bleaching?

Fraaances · 11/02/2025 12:07

My hair improved dramatically when I changed to having only a quarter head of foils and closer to my natural colour - so not bleached to ashy. Nobody’s noticed a difference and tbh, I can go without foils for more than 6m now and save on purple shampoo etc. (Purple shampoo also fries hair, btw.)

Chuchoter · 11/02/2025 12:11

You have a lot of hair breakage.

What is your diet like?

Stop bleaching it, a bloody good cut and ask your hairdresser to take out the weight if you want to keep the length

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 11/02/2025 12:18

My hair was going like this so last hairdresser appointment I went darker!

SockPuppet · 11/02/2025 12:26

My hair became like this when I was iron deficient. Lots of it was falling out when I washed and dried it. I think it's hair breakage. It never used to look like that and I have had highlights on and off for years and never more than 2 or 3 times per year max.
I've been taking prescribed iron supplements for a few months now and the falling out has hugely slowed down (only a couple of strands when I washed it today) so I am hoping it will grow without the breakage now.

Hdjdb42 · 11/02/2025 12:48

I had the same issue 5 years ago, in fact mine looked worse than yours. After getting the all clear from blood tests (thyroid etc) I realised I cannot bleach or use hair straighteners anymore. I changed to a dyson hair dryer, and it's been the best thing I've ever done. I use a wella blonde tint instead of bleach. My hair is healthy and shiny now.

MagicalMystical · 11/02/2025 12:55

Adding my voice to the recommendation to check your iron level. My hairdresser was the person who spotted I had a deficiency by the way my hair was. Went for bloods and next thing I knew, I was in for an iron infusion. My hair is now longer, thicker and more lustrous.

AlleyRose · 11/02/2025 12:58

Sleep with a silk cap on and don't tie your hair back. Ever. Use a clip.

Also, don't wrap your towel into a turban.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 11/02/2025 14:01

Stop bleaching it!

Fraaances · 11/02/2025 15:59

Check out Abbey Yung & Blowout Professor on YouTube for advice re hair health. Just remember a lot of their product suggestions (esp his) are from sponsorships so use your own judgement. I have found them to be very helpful and I have used my own choice of product - mostly J&K Beauty products. (They’re cheaper than Western ones where I live and you get much more product for the price.)

Thanks for the reply. I have a tangle teezer too but i thought they are safe and not damaging? 🤣

Do you straighten it?

I used to, then i stopped about a year ago as i was so scared of damaging it more than it already is. I do a blow out with a brush now as i need the heat otherwise it would look horrendous

thanks for the comment. I dont think i have hair loss per se, i think a normal amount falls out but then again where do you draw the line as its individual. Ive had bloods done numerous times in the past and iron deficiency wasn’t detected. But im glad ur sorted hun! X

I cant not bleach it, i love being blonde and my natural hair is yellowy sand 🙄😭

do you guys think keratin straightening would help? I could probably deal with not using any heat etc but i don’t want to let it grow out. I dont like my natural hair colour. It would also mean me walking around with horrible roots etc for god knows how long. I dont want to cut it either as ive been growing it for so long. I will discuss this with my hairdresser. I need to go there on my worst day so she could see. But i might add that she is aware of my hair condition and all she did was recommend some masks and leave ins

EveryDayisFriday · 11/02/2025 22:53

I know you dont want to but I would stop bleaching it, it's too rough for your hair and causing breakage, go for a bayalage and lighten it less often and only once it has its health back.

Get a good cut to trim the broken ends, use a good hair mask once a week and reduce the heat. IE leave to dry naturally and just use a bit of blowdrying to style it at the end after a heat protection spray and hair oil afterwards.

HollyGolightly4 · 11/02/2025 23:00

@AlleyRose what type of clip could tie hair back instead of a bobble ? I'm intrigued by what you've said, but I don't think my hair would hold in a clip.

Joystir59 · 12/02/2025 02:41

Stop washing it and drying it all the time. And have it cut really short. Don't use a comb or brush on it. Basically cut all the dead hair off and leave it alone for a good long while.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 12/02/2025 02:49

What's your hairs natural state. Any wave in there?
