Birkenstocks, worth buying cheaper version or not?

I've never owned any Birkenstocks but I've fallen in love with these

But £130!! Yikes! Not sure I can justify it. Fatface and Next have much cheaper versions, but would I regret that is the question 🤔

I've got some almost identical ones from Primark, very comfy. I wore them a lot last year.

(Although I always get dupes of everything as I need the vegan versions and posh shops either don't do them or the quality is the same as the cheaper option.
I doubt they will last as long as the real ones but good enough for me!)

Came on to recommend my Primark ones too. I wore them all summer and only had to bin them a few weeks ago as I stood in a massive pile of dog crap. Bought a new pair immediately.

Diggetydawg · 10/02/2025 18:40

Dupes are not worth it. I got a pair from Next that were £30 and didn't last a summer and my Birkenstocks last about 5 years wearing almost every day all summer and I walk a lot. The initial outlay is more butcost per wear the Birkenstocks work out cheaper.

pantsalot · 10/02/2025 18:56

How do you stop them getting smelly from sweat? Or is that just me?

soontobeamama · 10/02/2025 19:02

The White Company are selling them for an inflated price - if you search for the style, you will see that lots of places will sell them much cheaper.

Birkenstocks are generally an expensive shoe, but are very well made and last a long time. I have bought mine in places like Secret Sales and Schuh on sale.

There are lots of dupes about, but are unlikely to be good quality leather, or as well made.

PaganOfTheYuleTimes · 10/02/2025 19:04

Once upon a time I'd have said just get birkis as I had pairs that were indestructible... Last years pair lasted barely the summer though so despite the price the quality has gone to shit, might as well get cheaper dupes nowadays!

I got mine just before lockdown. I alternate between two pairs but I feel both of their soles are wearing out. One pair feels like there’s not much cork left.

I have the authentic Boston clogs, bought years ago, wear regularly in the summer, not daily and they still look fine. So worth it for this style as it's so versatile and hard-wearing in my opinion.
I bought the toe out M&S dupe for Arizonas last year and was really impressed with them. Probably wouldn't pay full price for sandal styles while. The M&S versions exist.

I had a look at the M&S ones when I was there last week, they aren't quite the same style, they don't have the strap bit. But I'm going to look again and try them on.

For foot support they are amazing
In the last year i have bought
Arizonas
Buckleys (similar to the bostons and on sale for £70 atm)
Evas
🙈🙈🙈

I love them so much!

Mrburnshound · 10/02/2025 19:49

But yes vinted is good as people buy them and cant face wearing them in lol

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/02/2025 23:01

I have three pairs of Bostons bought over the last five years or so. Black oiled leather bought via Depop, tan suede, and beige leather. The tan suede I got for about £80 in the Urban Outfitters sale, and DP bought me the beige (I think the colour is mocha or something) for my birthday last year, again, heavily discounted somewhere.

I wear them all the time, they look good with chunky socks in spring/autumn as well as with bare feet. For me they have been worth every penny and I can’t wait for the bloody rain to stop so I can get them back out!

I’m also on my second pair of the shearling slipper version - the first pair are still perfect but they smell awful!

I have real Birkenstocks ,
Nothing beats the real thing .
I buy them from John Lewis when they're 20 or 25% off for a price match event , happens several times a year , just have to keep your eyes peeled

I got mine from Moshulu, very comfy and reasonably priced

I have Moshulu as well, after years of buying Birkenstocks. Love them.
