Hi all

Im 38 and Im short (4"8), and have always struggled with finding 'my style' - its always been hard to find clothes that fit (particularly trousers and dresses) so Ive always kinda of just put together outfits from clothes that fit rather then a particular style etc

I want to start dressing in clothes that work with my body and look good but I am absolutely clueless in where to start

Any hints or advice to get me started?

Thanks

I am slightly taller by 2 inches… it’s hard.
i find dresses much better… separates ,by definition , always cut you in half.
Trousers are better straight from the hip. I have been wearing loose cotton trousers with tunic style shirt dress over the top.
i am big busted so boat necks are always good.
I avoid high heeels.. as I can’t walk in them but I have a pair wedges which look good. Birkies in summer give an extra couple cm height and the neutral tones look better. In winter black lace up doc martens with short black socks.
I bought my first trench coat.. it comes to my knee, no belt to break up line and I feel elegant whenever I wear it.

Most people find they get into a habit of shopping from just a few familiar places. If you go through a list such as this you may realise there are places it’s never occurred to you to shop from before. And really, developing your own style depends on having a sufficient number of varied sources to make exploration and experimentation fun.

This article published last year is admittedly only about dresses - but it does cover some more exciting brands / designers that make clothes suitable for a petite frame.

Obviously there’s a difference between 4’8 and 5’1 - the only option is to sift through suggested brands to see which work.

Pinterest is great to help work out your style and fund what cuts/styles will suit your body shape best.
Find a decent tailor/dressmaker that can alter your clothes so they fit perfectly.

Also if you are short never buy those 3/4 pants… they are cut differently and make you look shorter. I but long pants and have them hemmed so they are a good length.
