Hush - so expensive now

Saw a pair of lovely trousers from Hush - thought ‘yup’ and went to buy them … £90. For cotton, made in china. Not organic cotton, not thick cotton, just cotton trousers in a nice shape. When did they get so expensive?? I’m sure their trousers used to be £50/60 or have I lost a decade —maybe

It is ridiculously expensive now, I used to love Hush around 6/7 years ago but now only really look when there is a sale on (and even then I don’t think it’s that cheap!). Mint Velvet is the same, I love a lot of the styles but it’s so very overpriced!

MsDastardley · 09/02/2025 09:22

Was just thinking that. Was looking at new season stuff in John Lewis yesterday. I quite liked the barrel leg jeans, which are £95. They seem to repeat the same styles year after year too.

ocelot3 · 09/02/2025 09:28

Stopped buying from them this season after they charged for return postage for 2 items I wanted to send back from 2 orders around Xmas. I was not even to send them back together and pay one return charge. I’m over and out with them after that. I’ve never had that from any retailer.

RockStarMartini · 09/02/2025 09:31

Their customer service is awful too, such a shame as I used to love their stuff a few years back.

Ohshutupcolinyoutwat · 09/02/2025 09:35

Haven't bought from them in years, don't think the quality is worth the price. Surprised they are still going tbh.

They very quietly brought in the returns fee sometime last autumn. No notice given and no fucks given when I complained. I still like their stuff but it's virtually impossible to know which size I need given their vast sizing inconsistency plus the quality can be very variable. I used to spend £100s with them each year, if not more, but haven't bought a thing since. I have about £35 on a credit note and I'm hoping there'll be something I can buy with it that I know my size.

I've found the customer service to be generally reasonable though the tone tends to be a bit defensive. They're awful though for not refunding the correct amount so I'd advise anyone returning items (remember, they now charge for returns!) to carefully check that the amount refunded matches the expected amount. On numerous occasions over the last few years I've had to contact them because they've missed returned items. At one point it was happening in almost every order and I was getting worried that they'd think I was trying it on.

This seems to be a theme at the moment though. I've recently had to do a charge back with Anthropologie because they didn't refund one of three returned item and customer service just refused to engage with me. I won't be shopping there again. And the drop-off service at my local M&S missed items in two of three returned orders (and getting it sorted was a massive pain) so now I only return items to a till.

Checkhov · 09/02/2025 09:46

I like a lot of their styles, but the fabric they use is horrible, flimsy and cheap. Plus yeah their clothing is overpriced for such uniformly shoddy material.

ShortBreak · 09/02/2025 09:49

I used to love Hush years ago, but it was definitely a mixture of some nice things and some awful cheap materials even then. It does seem very expensive.

I got a lovely Hush jacket from Vinted recently, the material is so soft and it looks great on (I think 😄).

Trainr · 09/02/2025 09:49

The quality is awful these days and the clothes are samey. They used to be much better quality and more on trend, now I think you can get better quality and more fashionable clothes in a supermarket!

GCAcademic · 09/02/2025 09:50

I find their clothes to be poor quality. I bought quite a few things (first time I'd shopped with them) just over a year ago and they all look like rags now.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 09/02/2025 10:02

I used to buy a lot from Hush about 7/8 years ago but the quality has declined since and so much stuff looks a bit frumpy now. There was a time when I lived in their ruched skirts and Tara dresses but that feels a very late 10s look now and I've long sold them on ebay! I do still wear some of their t-shirts and sweatshirts and have a couple pairs of jeans that have worn well over the years.

I don't think it's worth the price they charge either, and in recent years have only bought items when they were heavily discounted in the sales or at their sample sale.

The charge for returns is annoying too, so I buy from JL when I can and pick up from my local Waitrose.

MidnightPatrol · 09/02/2025 10:03

I’ve always thought it was quite expensive.

i like the designs - but an unlined cotton dress for £129?

GettingOlderandBetter · 09/02/2025 10:50

Like everywhere they’re hit and miss most years. I have some much loved items from them that have lasted brilliantly and other bits that look knackered after one wear. I buy is the sales if I love it or off vinted. Sizing is so strange everywhere now it’s no different with Hush.

DearOwl · 09/02/2025 11:18

The only thing I tend to buy now is their boyfriend jeans and I get them for a tenner on Vinted as a rule.

Their sizing is ridiculous too. I'm a fairly standard size 10. I have to sometimes go to a 6 in Hush and I am categorically not a size 6 in any way shape or form

Talisin · 09/02/2025 11:50

I buy the occasional thing (mostly in the sales) and the quality has definitely gone down. I find it much better to buy via John Lewis or Next now as I can return in store for free.

JustLikeThatBluebird · 09/02/2025 12:03

That's a good tip about buying from John Lewis or Next for free returns, I hadn't realised they stocked Hush. Do they have a good selection?

Talisin · 09/02/2025 12:09

I haven’t tried comparing number of items but if there’s something I actually like on the Hush website then I check both JL and Hush and if they don’t have it it’s generally because it’s a very new piece and it’ll turn up a few weeks later. The only time I have actually bought direct from Hush lately is their end of sales when no one else has the prices that low so it’s worth the hassle.

Oliver Bonas is the same, it's called vanity sizing apparently.
