Community Clothing: thoughts?

I've been looking specifically at their hoodies and the trainers (both for women).

I like the ethos but how are they on quality, and what's the sizing like? I'm concerned more about shoe sizing - I'm usually a 6.5-7/40.

I'd appreciate any opinions from anyone who's bought from them.

Only bought their jeans, a few years ago and have them on today, so they are doing well and comfortable. Sizing seemed to be a true fit. Customer service was good, so ask if they can measure the shoes, as it could be that the width determines the sizing (or it does for me).

Give them a go, as they have a great ethos and I always check in on their site to see what additions they are making.

I haven’t yet bought any hoodies though they look great. The knitwear is outstandingly good value. I’ve heard from others that the women’s trousers exceed all expectations.

No idea on the trainers.

I’m another who keeps a close eye on the site, as well as repeat buying small items for stocking presents and massively admiring their ethos.

Thank you for your replies, and good tip about asking them to measure the shoes. You have to pay to return, or I wouldn't be worried about it.

If you're in the north west, look out for the pop up shops they do - usually seconds and end of line - for absolute bargains.

They have had a stand at the Festival of Making in Blackburn and We Made the Weekend at Media City in recent years. Also good to try stuff on and get a sense of the sizing.

No, south east unfortunately

DH and I have a few things from there a d the quality is excellent. Can't comment on the shoe sizing as I have very wide duck feet so I haven't even been tempted by their footwear.

Floisme · 09/02/2025 13:55

I've bought three pairs of trousers from them, all great quality but the combats are my absolute favourites. I've also seen some of their knitwear which looks excellent. I don't know about their hoodies or trainers but I'd assume a similar level of quality.

It's a very utilitarian kind of vibe so that kind of look needs to appeal.

Everything I've tried has been true to size.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 09/02/2025 19:16

I have a hoodie. I really like it. Good quality. True to the size guide size.

I have some knickers and a dress..lovely!

That width column just has the shoe size in.

ILikeMyBike · 10/02/2025 09:52

What an interesting brand! I've never looked before. I'm now looking at some of their "work" trousers...
The garment measurement puts me easily within one size, but following their guide where you input weight and height they suggest a size up.

Are the garment measurements usually accurate? Am I just very heavy for my size? I noticed the personalised guide didn't ask for waist or hip measurements which are pretty crucial for trousers.

It's a link to the makers of the shoes.

Barkcloth · 10/02/2025 14:57

@PickAChew They give the length as well as the size.

@Knowsley that's very helpful, thank you.

And thanks to all for your comments

The length is standard sizing but no way is the size 1 just 1cm wide and the size 4 4cm wide. That's what I'm trying to say. That column of the table is incorrect so gives no information about the width.

MousePolice · 10/02/2025 16:39

I have a pair of the trainers. I got my usual size and they fit really well. I’ve not worn them loads yet but only because it has been boot weather since I got them. I found the wool jumpers came up small but the sweatshirts are thick, well made and true to size.

Knowsley · 10/02/2025 16:40

@PickAChew , tell them not me.
I posted a link thinking it might be useful, not to have it criticised. I have no affiliation with the company, but like that the shoes are made in the UK.

StanfreyPock · 10/02/2025 16:48

Have not bought shoes, but have t-shirts and jeans from them - true to size and good quality. This has reminded me to have another look!

Re buying new trainers, we've have pairs of trainers & walking shoes resoled when the uppers were fine (and v comfy) but the soles badly worn. A good shoe repairer in our city does them for £40-50 and there are places you can send shoes away to. But if the uppers have had it then you're allowed new! 😉

I'm sorry you are taking my observation so personally.

Epic level passive aggression there

DisforDarkChocolate · 10/02/2025 20:55

I've not bought shoes but I have bought a couple of other things and the quality is fantastic.

I'm getting a sweatshirt next.

HundredMilesAnHour · 10/02/2025 21:59

I have 2 coats that I’ve bought from Community Clothing. My first from Vinted (I was being cautious!) and my second direct. The quality is very good and I always try to support local independent businesses rather than high street chains so definitely a winner!

I also buy from Lanx shoes (they also have great bags and socks) for similar reasons.

Knowsley · 11/02/2025 08:21

@PickAChew , did you have anything useful to contribute to the thread?

IsawwhatIsaw · 13/02/2025 09:13

I’ve just bought a hoodie, it feels well made and good quality

HundredMilesAnHour · 13/02/2025 18:19

After reading this thread, I ordered some trainers direct from Walsh (Community Clothing’s Walsh collaboration ones didn’t have the colour I wanted) and they arrived today. I’m very impressed! The quality is fantastic, even better than I was expecting. I definitely recommend them!! And I’m picky about shoes/trainers/everything (!).
