Looking for something "nice" up to about £50. Don't want retinol as have that in a serum anyway. Anti aging would be great. I have combination skin and I'm 45 years old. Thank you :)

I really like this:

I had it in an Advent calendar from M&S and was really impressed.
I used to love Guerlain Midnight Secret but can't find it any more. This Formula one is the next best I've tried.
Eta I've also got combination skin and am late 50s.

I was going to write this post tonight so thank you OP.

I will have a look at that M&S one - it has good reviews.

I think the Boots No.7 Future Renewal (for older skin) and perfect and protect are brilliant. I have tried all sorts over the years and they leave my skin feeling very nourished.

Funnily enough, having said I can't find Midnight Secret these days, this thread inspired me to Google it and it looks like it's available.
I hadn't been able to find it for years but if it's the same formula as the one I used to use it's definitely worth a go:

Adapalene for hormonal acne and texture, tretinoin for fine lines and sun damage, or tazarotene as a combination, are the hardest working night creams.

All 3 are retinoids, which are stronger versions of retinol from the same family. Tazarotene is available from Indian/Spanish pharmacies, or tret and adapalene can be purchased from Monderma, Dermatica and Skin&Me.

Otherwise for retinol, I would only recommend Medik8. They just aren't as effective as retinoids though and your skin returns to its normal state after a few days of not using them. Retinoids are longer-lasting.

Vitamin C is also a great night cream but for the best results, use a retinoid at night and incorporate vit C into your morning skincare for the best of both, as retinoids can't be used in the morning/day time.

I know it's not the price you want to pay but I've not found anything better than Nivea, it actually feels and smells good. I've tried more expensive but I always want to go back to Nivea.

Get any old face cream and put some on your finger then add castor oil to it and apply to your face. Castor oil is a total game changer to me, £7:50 from
Holland and Barrett!

HalfMumHalfBiccit · 03/02/2025 23:01

this is great. Smells nice too. Good value with proven anti aging results.

Eucerine I’ve been using this for years. Every so often I try something different but I keep coming back to it. Boots often has it on offer.

I use the serum of this too. Good stuff!

Shwish · 03/02/2025 23:13

Thanks everyone. I've ordered the Marks and Spencer one recommended upthread. Fingers crossed.

And I have bought the Boots one as I was in Boots today!

Lovely helpful thread OP and all, thanks!

Jillfi · 07/02/2025 02:50

You could even use these from M&S or Boots creams in the morning.

Thanks everyone. I've ordered the Marks and Spencer one recommended upthread. Fingers crossed.

Is it any good? Worth trying?

JamMakingWannaBe · 09/02/2025 20:31

I have bought the M&S one too, and if I like it, the Gift Set is on my Birthday gift wish list.

Please report back everyone!

rumkar · 10/02/2025 02:53

Does it specify the percentage of niacinamide?

BlackCat25 · 11/03/2025 18:39

OP, I second @rumkar Any nightcream that isn’t actively improving your skin longterm is a waste of time and money imo. Even the ones that smell and feel gorgeous on application. I use a custom formula from Monderma and it has visibly changed my skin to the point that all of my girlfriends are moving to it too.
