I love a tote bag, it suits my style and I have various styles in very difference colours but my shoulder hates them and so for travel I need a rucksack 😩

my only requirement apart from the fact that it doesn’t make me look like I am
borrowing by DCs college bag is that the shoulder straps need to be padded / I cannot manage thin cheese wire style cutters

please hit me with your best options.

Whoops, sorry, didn’t see that you wanted padded shoulder pads

I've got this one. I've had it for a couple of years and still going strong with regular use. Goes with most outfits, and is very safe.

JollyViper · 02/02/2025 17:23

To me the decathlon one looks like a nappy bag , not a day to day/work bag.
Eastpak rucksacks are really durable and you can choose from plain black through to tiedye. I see loads of people of different ages using them

willsandnoodle · 02/02/2025 17:25

@JollyViper I suppose because it's square you could say that, but it's not a nappy bag and doesn't look like one in person. I use it for work and leisure.

So many pockets inside and out

JollyViper · 02/02/2025 17:27

@willsandnoodle yes I've seen it in real life, several mums from stay & play use it because their partners will also use it too.
Roka always gets suggested on these kind of threads, I don't get the love, I've got two of their bags and never reach for either.
And mia tui ( I think that's the name) again not my taste but very popular ( on here)

Maria Maleta has lovely backpacks:

i have one of their bucket bags and it’s beautifully made.

The straps are on the thin side maybe, but you could add those slide on pads.

TheLeadbetterLife · 02/02/2025 17:36

There are loads of detachable leather strap pads on Amazon.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 02/02/2025 17:46

I've just bought a Nordace bag for work.

lol!

My dc use Eastpac for school/college.

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads whilst wearing his orange coat?
As the op didn't put a price point , I thought my first suggestion may have been too expensive. So suggested another rucksack I see day in day on other ppl.

They make strap pads. I bought them in a contrasting colour for my daughter's school bag.

This was the must have bag when she was in Y5. Whilst I like the look of them I don't really think that they are worth the money as they aren't overly spacious and you can't properly wash them so when they get grubby or something spilled on it.

Sosigrole · 04/02/2025 15:28

@Mammyofonlyone its not the same as the popular Kanken ones at all, which I’m not keen on either,….feels a totally different material, a bit softer and has a more subtle logo. Different straps too and you can’t get strap protectors for this design either.

DancingNotDrowning · 05/02/2025 03:25

Thanks for suggestions - I don’t have a price point in mind, I’m in the whatever it takes category.

I don’t think the shoulder pads work either aesthetically or practically with the thin straps - I need a bag designed for heaving around 2 x laptops; 2 x phones; iPad; assorted cables; notepad; make up and a book.

Im leaning towards one of the knomo ones but don't love it - perhaps it’s impossible to love that degree of practicality 🤷‍♀️

My DD got a Nordace one about a year and a half ago. She uses it daily for college, holidays, shopping, etc. and it still looks brand new.

Monty27 · 05/02/2025 04:00

@DancingNotDrowning I'd need a trolley bag for the that lot 😁

Cabin Zero and Cabinmax make backpacks specifically in under seat baggage sizes.

But then where would I put my extra shoes 😉

I've got a fossil leather backpack and I love it. It's from the men's range, why women can't have a functional backpack I don't know. It's called the weekender or coming like that
