Socks with loafers

I have just bought myself three pairs of smart loafers for work in the last of the January sales and am delighted with my bargains!

Can anyone recommend some good socks to wear with them? I am used to wearing tights / foot tights to work and my current socks are either trainer liners or thick thermals. I would like some that are thin enough to still look elegant and that won't slip down inside the shoe.

Also, I have one pair of loafers in off-white (for summer) and two in shades of tan. What colour socks would you wear with them?

If your feet are size 6 or above then men’s outfitters like Drakes offer the very best socks. The only problem is too much choice.

Otherwise, The Cambridge Sock Company is pretty good for choice. Maria La Rosa has the prettiest - if your work wardrobe is relaxed. I have an unreasonable fondness for Margaret Howell socks - some left in the sale.

(Other less extravagant brands are of course available. Lanx, Community Clothing …)
