Considering a Brazilian Wax

CoffeeLover87 · 01/02/2025 12:17

Hi all,

So, I’ve never waxed down there before, but I’m seriously considering it. Shaving has become such a chore – it’s tedious, annoying, and honestly, my skin isn’t loving it. I end up with irritation every other time, and having to do it every few days. DH and I both prefer me hairless, but I’m starting to wonder if there’s a better way.

I’ve been thinking about trying a Brazilian wax since I’ve heard it lasts longer and causes less irritation than shaving. But here’s the thing: I’m a total wimp when it comes to pain. I dread getting my eyebrows waxed because even that makes me wince, so the thought of a Brazilian is making me sweat a bit.

Has anyone here had one? How bad is the pain, really? How long does it take, and is it actually more practical than shaving in the long run? Any tips for a first-timer? Or, if you think it’s a terrible idea for someone with zero pain tolerance, feel free to talk me out of it!

Thanks in advance

Also a link made with recurrent uti.

I get a Hollywood done regularly and it's absolutely fine. Get it done with Lycon wax, and it's pretty much painless!

ScupperedbytheSea · 02/02/2025 19:18

It hurts, but it's not unmanageable. First time is the worst, then it gets easier, and it's better if you do it frequently.

An experience waxer is key. I have a brazilian every 5 weeks, and then let it grow in between.

crackadawn · 02/02/2025 20:26

I wouldn't say I have a high threshold but it's not too bad at all. Hollywood every 6 weeks, £40. Done and dusted

How about an epilator? A hand held appliance so you're in charge! A few undignified positions but the hair is removed from the root.
As for STI's etc. a client can tell if the salon is hot on (which it must be) cleanliness: no double dipping, clean towels &(every client!) bed linen, sterilised tweezers scissors etc. clean wax pot. Wet wipes and an afterwax (also pre-wax) lotion used on individual cotton pads for the client to personally use if preferred. Not to mention disposible gloves. Didn't have any problem at all! Sorry, but there must be some grim places around if this sort of thing happens!

Yes small scissors are used to trim the length of the hair. Best to leave about 1/2 an inch of hair for a good grip. A pre-wax lotion can be used on sensitive skin aswell as after.

I don’t think the inference was that sti’s were being picked up in the salon, though I suppose it’s possible if correct hygiene isn’t maintained.

The process itself could cause microtraumas in the skin, thereby facilitating infection during sex. That’s a possibility perhaps.

Or there may not be a cause and effect relationship as such. It could be that the people who shave or wax more frequently in the population studied are those who tend to have more sex, thereby resulting in greater exposure to infection. So correlation not causation.

Audiprettier · 02/02/2025 20:55

Yes I did pick up on that, but feel that's more in the realms of scientific facts and statistics! Aftercare is as important as pre-care as we know.
Could cause this, could cause that. Smacks of scaremongering to me!

Perhapsperhaps · 02/02/2025 20:59

Yeah, that’s Pubmed for you 🙄

RitaFromTheRanch · 02/02/2025 21:00

An epilator???

Those things KILL on your legs. Not a chance I'd put that anywhere near my Fanny

Novella2012 · 02/02/2025 21:13

I've read that IPL doesn't work on red hair. Is there any type of laser hair removal that would work for coarse red hair?

Marble10 · 02/02/2025 21:53

I have a high pain threshold and I had my legs waxed once and it was horrendous. I also didn't get the 'silky smooth' effect I was expecting. I went with Laser as I have quite dark hair so even when I did shave it would be visible under my skin by the next day. Recommend laser, but it is expensive and a long term solution.

Audiprettier · 02/02/2025 23:41

Fair one about a UTI, although I'm fairly sure someone with one wouldn't fancy having a Brazillian or a Hollywood at that time. Consultation cards are also kept for that reason (for any visible marks/spots/skin damage. Medication etc.) & commonsense prevails!

JulyCompost · 12/10/2025 13:36

viva la brazil lets go

Icanttakethisanymore · 12/10/2025 21:48

I’ve done it monthly for years (Hollywood or Brazilian). It does hurt but it’s not terrible. I HATE shaving with a passion. Give me a wax any day.

Sundayisworst · 12/10/2025 21:58

I’m a waxer- (done it for years and have had many celebs on the couch- that’s not relevant but I’m just showing off!) it would take about 20-30 mins and if you have a good waxer it shouldn’t be agonising. Very brief stings but you’ll be chatting away and joking hopefully. Could be 45 minutes if you prefer a bit slower. Well worth it I think. I’m lazered so no waxing for me anymore and I quite miss it. The smoothness afterwards is great in my opinion

Your hair is there for a reason.

Your hair is there for a reason.

Mine is there so I can pay someone to rip it all out.
