Considering a Brazilian Wax

CoffeeLover87 · 01/02/2025 12:17

Hi all,

So, I’ve never waxed down there before, but I’m seriously considering it. Shaving has become such a chore – it’s tedious, annoying, and honestly, my skin isn’t loving it. I end up with irritation every other time, and having to do it every few days. DH and I both prefer me hairless, but I’m starting to wonder if there’s a better way.

I’ve been thinking about trying a Brazilian wax since I’ve heard it lasts longer and causes less irritation than shaving. But here’s the thing: I’m a total wimp when it comes to pain. I dread getting my eyebrows waxed because even that makes me wince, so the thought of a Brazilian is making me sweat a bit.

Has anyone here had one? How bad is the pain, really? How long does it take, and is it actually more practical than shaving in the long run? Any tips for a first-timer? Or, if you think it’s a terrible idea for someone with zero pain tolerance, feel free to talk me out of it!

Thanks in advance

This boring old trope. A waxed fanny does not resemble a child’s any more than a man’s shaved head resembles a baby’s.

And ‘why not wait until you get old?’ might be the silliest thing I’ve seen on here.

Edited

Men being bald is a natural look though, it’s something we have always been accustomed to in men.

It’s not a valid comparison imho.

Its honestly fine. First time is more painful just because growth is thicker. After that if you go every 4/5 weeks it's fine, a bit nippy but very quick.

I've tried laser but the strength increases each time and by the third session I couldn't handle the pain. I've gone back to having it all waxed off.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 02/02/2025 14:16

Ouch 😬 I'll stick with shaving thanks!

Quick and easy in the shower, all off pain-free and no rash or itching afterwards.

And for the person asking, yes, DH also removes his public hair 😊

bluebalou · 02/02/2025 14:20

I take two paracetamol a few hours before and yes it's painful, lasts me about three weeks and it feels better than shaving, but I dread my appointment which is every 5/6 weeks it does get easier as the hair becomes fine.

I am realising I am quite the prude as there is no way I could let anyone wax my nether regions. Not because of pain but I can’t imagine that level of intimate care. I absolutely couldn’t cope with that level of scrutiny, I didn’t know so many people had this done!

How on earth do you stretch skin taut when having a Hollywood? Do they stretch your labia out? I don't think I could let anyone do that, let alone face the pain!!

This is what I'm wondering.

Also, a lot of ppl referring to "underneath". What is meant by this? The underside of the outer labia?

I feel similar.

More power to those who do, but I just couldn't.

Regardless, I work odd shift patterns and struggle to make appointments for things like this, so do much things like this myself.

Even notwithstanding my shift pattern, I would find it a hassle having to schedule this every 4-6 weeks. I also don't like the idea of having to put up with the hair growth in between.

Does this not bother anybody? On occasions when I'm with DP, I like to be freshly shaven / tidied up down below. Do the waxers just get on with it in the in between period with all the regrowth?

Softleftpowerstance · 02/02/2025 15:47

Laser all the way. It’s not expensive anymore and doesn’t hurt.

Audiprettier · 02/02/2025 16:11

I had my own salon & trained with the best to carry out Brazillians... you ARE going to feel it, there's no getting away from it. However the feeling of cleanliness & smoothness overides the discomfort at the time! Hair shouldn't be long (but therapist can trim) & an experienced waxer can remove in (one area) one strip & use a really good soothing afterwax. I'd say it's worth a try! I know everyone's pain threshold is different but the main positive is the length of time (up to two ((even 4)) weeks generally, unless you have hirsutism-variable) to feel smooth inbetween appointments. It's lovely! Word of mouth is the best way to find a fab therapist for this...give it a whirl! A couple of my clients took painkillers prior...one I even had to count down so she knew exactly when she'd feel it - not recommended!). Laser & Electrolysis are alternatives! I could go on... Good luck! 💐

All hair is removed. From the top of you pubic line, all the way down and around, up your bum crack to the top of your bum cheeks.

You wouldn’t like my waxing lady then, she has a ring light positioned over the area to ensure she doesn’t miss a thing!

BackinBlack24 · 02/02/2025 17:08

I did it once and never again, I literally was going into shock shaking by the end of it because it hurts a lot !! Get a lady shaver and save yourself the pain

Lowcarbonated · 02/02/2025 17:16

Sorry to jump on this thread, but as its a pube thread that's active I thought better than to start another one. I couldn't face a Brazilian but would like to tidy up I think after years of being very natural. What do people mean when they say trim ? Do you do it with scissors? And doesn't it make the hairs coarser and more likely to irritate anyone's face that might be down there ? Grin

One hand close to the top/low on mons towards the side about to be waxed

One hand inside upper thigh

Pull hands apart

Voila!

RitaFromTheRanch · 02/02/2025 17:23

On a scale of eye brow waxing to lip filler it's just a bit more than middle.

Getting on all fours for the arsehole is my least favourite but bit.

Whydoyoucarewhatido · 02/02/2025 17:41

I have the lot off and it HURTS. So much so that I go every 3 weeks, because the less you have to rip out, the less it hurts. Still bloody painful though!
It is also entirely undignified, but I’ve had the same therapist do it for decades. She’s quick and very thorough.
I much prefer it though (DH couldn’t give a shit either way) and I think 5 minutes of pain (yes, I’ve timed it 🤣🤣) is worth it. I am too bloody fair for laser or I would have done that decades ago!
I don’t do the all fours though - I refuse! Legs in the air isn’t much better though 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Errorcreatingusername · 02/02/2025 17:44

I Go for a Hollywood every 5-6 weeks and yes it bloody hurts. I just prefer to get it all off and done. The waxer doesn’t touch me at all with her hand, I hold everything taut and she just spreads the wax on with a spatula. She uses hot wax for the front then strip wax for my bottom.

its the type of pain that just goes straight away. No soreness or pain after the wax is off. So get it done and forget for another 5/6 weeks :)

MrsR87 · 02/02/2025 17:56

I’ve had a Hollywood wax every 7-8 weeks since I was in my early 20s (I’m in my late 30s now). Honestly, I really don’t think it hurts that much - there’s probably two “pulls” where I think “ooh I felt that!” But other thank that, I think my ankles hurt more! I find it so easy, I have reduced hair growth and I could never go back to shaving!

unmemorableusername · 02/02/2025 18:04

Can't you just trim?

You increase the chance of getting infections. You are meant to have public hair. It's healthy!

I’ve never had an infection in almost 20 years of having it all off.

CrushingOnRubies · 02/02/2025 18:52

Take some painkillers beforehand. It hurts but the pain is gone quickly.

Legs sting more I find like stinging nettles. But bikini line doesn't hurt like that

jjeoreo · 02/02/2025 18:53

An infection? What kind? How?
