Collagen- which one!

I am early sixties and fancy trying a collagen supplement for 3-6 months and longer if it works. I'm mostly wanting it for my nails and my joints, although younger looking skin would be a great bonus! I've done quite a bit of research but I'm still confused! Marine/bovine/denatured....etc
Was wondering about a brand called British Supplements?

Any real life recommendations from you lot?

Also anything anyone has taken that's really helped joints? I have arthritic fingers and toes which are increasingly giving me a hard time.
Thanks

I have absolute collagen and have done for about 15 months now! I also take nutrition geeks biotin growth. I look better and feel better than I did when I was 20, I'm 41. Can't say if it's had an effect on joints etc because they were never an issue before but I do feel and look better.

@roselilylavender I have mine in coffee, tried it in cold juice and it went all gloopy.

Interestingly I went to a talk by Dr Jenna Macciochi who is a Dr in nutrition and when asked what supplements she takes she said collagen was one of them (vitamin D and omega 3 were the others I can remember, maybe creatine but I might not have that right) and she is very much about getting your nutrition from food in the first instance.

@Lakel that's interesting, I didn't know that about upping your protein and getting the same effect. Lots of anecdotal evidence to suggest taking collagen as a supplement helps and maybe it's easier to drink a glass of something first thing rather than eating another chicken breast daily!
Thanks to everyone who has commented or replied, I'm still thinking of getting a 3 month supply, I haven't anything to lose really, apart from 40 ish quid, and it may help me.

Ancient and Brave for me too… great in morning coffee. Cannot taste or smell it. Do not however put it in your Prosecco on Boxing Day because you forgot to put it in your morning coffee..: doesn’t mix well 😂

Beauty Pie marine collagen super powder.
It's on special down reduced from £50 to £29.
Ancient & Brave is also good.

There's no evidence that collagen works. I have topical which makes the skin look plumper.

I read this but then I also read you cant use it if you have had breast cancer as it affects estrogen (I think?) production so it cant be both.

rumkar · 04/02/2025 00:13

You can apply it topically and consume the powder as part of shakes together.

I'm not sure if you can or cannot use it if you've had breast cancer, but a quick search and maybe hold off until you speak to your GP next?

Use ancient & brave as well. Use both marine & bovine - have a teaspoon of each in tea.

MiniCooperLover · 04/02/2025 09:21

Also using Ancient & Brave, clearly their marketing has done wonders, ha! I got it on recommendation of my SIL. It's only been a month and it may be coincidence, I don't know, but I am sleeping a bit better and my wrists/joints are hurting less (that may also be down to it warming up, who knows). Also taking the two magnesium tablets a day. Can't hurt I'm sure.

I’ve been using Primal Collagen from restora:cell even throughout my pregnancy, and I’m honestly amazed by the results. It feels so natural and nourishing, and I’ve noticed a real difference in my skin’s glow and overall vitality. It’s become an essential part of my daily routine, especially during such an important time. Highly recommend!
