Dark lipstick, thin lips, pale skin

Does this look harsh and unflattering? Just bought some Ilia stuff and don't want it to be a waste!
And should I start botox for those marionette lines?! (I'm 40)

It's not dark lipstick. Dark would be burgundy and maroon colours.

You look lovely and your lines are not noticeable at all

MsPossibly · 31/01/2025 13:19

Thank you! That's kind

What marionette lines?

TartanMammy · 31/01/2025 14:05

That's not dark lipstick.

Clinique black honey, would be an example of dark lipstick.

This looks nice but it's hard to know without seeing your eyes and cheeks and how it fits the rest of your face.

Is that a scrunchie at the back of your neck? I love the colour - goes well with your pale skin and the lipstick.

MsPossibly · 31/01/2025 14:14

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe it's the matteness that I was worried about? I think on quite tight wee lips in can be aging, but maybe it's just a look I'm not used to.

Lol, no! a big shopping bag with stuff for the charity shop behind me. But a blue scrunchie is a good idea!

I'd love that lip-line. Mine (v thin lip-line) is scarred from years of coldsores.

That colour is beautiful on you, I'd just carry on!

QuaterMiss · 31/01/2025 14:23

Ah! Well - you have a slight Tudor look about you. Next time you have a grand event to dress up for you could look for a high necked taffeta or silk blouse in that colour.

iamnotalemon · 31/01/2025 14:43

I really like it and think you are being harsh on yourself from the title. It's a pretty colour and suits you.

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 31/01/2025 14:54

That’s not dark, your lips aren’t thin and your lines aren’t awful!

You have a lovely shaped mouth.

MsProbably · 31/01/2025 16:22

I thought posting this was an exercise in masochism but you’ve all been very nice! (When I smile my lips disappear entirely, so maybe I just won’t smile)

NippyNinjaCrab · 31/01/2025 16:30

You have no lines and the lipstick is a lovely colour on you x

I was just about to post this!

Gatekeeper · 31/01/2025 16:43

Colour is lovely on you and you have lovely shaped lips. Much prefer yours over puffy inflated filled ones

zeddybrek · 31/01/2025 16:44

You look natural and beautiful. I wouldn't say that's a dark lipstick though.

Fawn87 · 31/01/2025 16:45

It looks alright to me. You could use a lip liner that's 1 shade darker than your lipstick colour if you want to define the shape and give the illusion of more volume.

LittleSF · 31/01/2025 16:47

It's a lovely colour on you. I'd also recommend a lip liner just to give a bit more definition and you can ever so slightly over line the lips to give a fuller look if you want.

That's exactly what I came on to say!

A lip liner would be great.

Overtheatlantic · 31/01/2025 20:07

You have very beautiful lips and skin. But black isn’t your colour.

I’ve never tackled lip liner but I shall!

MAC lipliners are amazing but pricey. I've found the Rimmel pencil ones excellent, as well as the Maybelline lifter ones for far less.
