Skin tints?

fathertedcraggyisland · 30/01/2025 05:01

My skin is light and I am very cool-tone.
My skin is clear. It is still slightly oily.

Generally I use Rare Beauty or Hourglass tinted foundations, they are the best products I have found for my skin.
On the rare occasions I wear full foundation I use DoubleWear.

Lately I have seen a lot of light touch skin tints, they appeal to me because my skin doesn't need much, I don't need to conceal anything.
I want a pop of colour on my pale skin.

Particularly I have seen a lot of Jones Road Skin tint, Charlotte Tilbury Healthy Glow & Bobbi Brown skin tint.

Unfortunately any Charlotte Tilbury products tend to be orangey and pull warm.
Has anyone cool toned tried this and found they didn't look like a baked bean?

The Jones Road tints look good. The reviews say they are oily, which would make me look like an oil slick.
Has anyone had a different experience?

Bobbi Brown tints look more like a foundation.
Is it really a simple tint?

Does anyone have recommendations for a good skin tint?
Particularly for someone with my skin type?

Of your list I've tried the Bobbi and the Jones Road. The Bobbi is definitely more of a foundation than a tint. Jones Road is definitely a tint but also definitely tends towards oily. My skin is dry-ish so it works ok on me but in the height of summer when my skin gets more oily it can go a bit oil slick.

GrimDamnFanjo · 30/01/2025 08:15

I've justbought Lisa Eldridge's skin tint. Will report back.

I've justbought Lisa Eldridge's skin tint. Will report back.

I have this and will be repurchasing as it’s lovely and light feeling. If you can get to. Space NK that has it, they will be able to match you.

Floradon · 30/01/2025 08:30

Lumene do some nice skin tints which feel very light on. I’m also pale and cool toned and they work for me.

LoafofSellotape · 30/01/2025 08:32

I'm super cool toned and have just bought ELF soft glam which isn't a skin tint as such but very light weight. I usually use Double Wear so it has a lot to live up to. The colour was perfect too.

prongsisontheway · 30/01/2025 08:53

I have a light skin tone, and strongly dislike warm toned products. I'm currently using Charlotte Tilbury's Foundation Stick in Fair 2. It's the perfect match for me, gives glow and blur rather than coverage (which I don't need). Before use, I dot a tiny bit of concealer on my blue toned eye area, just each side of the top of the nose, and on any spots. Then scribble on the foundation stick and pat to blend in. It's so easy you could do it almost in the dark, and still look ok!

Thank you, I love how everyone on this thread is not calling me a sap because I want a tinted foundation.

@shuffleofftobuffalo thanks, it seems I was right about the Bobbi Brown & Jones Road. Thinking about it could use the Jones Road ones at this time of year when it's colder outside and my skin is not sweating, so not as oily.
My only (other) thing is that the Jones Road ones are in quite a big pot. I know they do smaller sizes at Christmas etc, I wish they did the smaller versions all year round.

Thank you @GrimDamnFanjo has Lisa Eldridge launched a new version? I'm part of her rewards scheme 😁. I have some of the previous version, it is very good though it is more like a light foundation than a tint. I will be very interested to know whether they have changed the recipe. Have you used other tinted foundations?
@Britpopbaby would you mind posting your skin colour pale/fair/medium etc? And whether you are cool, neutral, or warm toned? If you don't want to post that information, please could you message me?

IME Lisa Eldridge's own skin is warmer and drier than mine though she does recognise and sell good cool and neutral products.

I'm old enough to have used orange foundation in the '90s 😂 I'm late 30s. I have some fine lines, no wrinkles yet.

DoubleWear is amazing & I have tried DoubleWear Light, though both are definitely foundations. I wear them for weddings, christenings, family events where photos are taken.
Other than looking pale in winter I don't need a skin cover-up. Just a tint, not a foundation.
Maybe I should say tinted skincare, rather than tinted foundation?
Because that's probably closer to what I'm after. I wear a tinted foundation daily, I set it though it always feels like an extra layer sitting on my skin all day.

@Floradon I have never used Lumene products. Thank you, I will take a look.

@LoafofSellotape thank you 😊. I have seen Elf soft glam, it looked very much like a foundation, rather than a little bit of colour tint. Is it a foundation?
I always forget Elf, I really should look at them more often for everything, not just foundation.

That's very interesting @prongsisontheway I was looking at the CT sticks recently, it looks like it's easy to put on in the car.

We have DCs, a herd of them. When we are going anywhere I do my makeup last to avoid the DCs food, cuddles or their desire to 'join in' from wrecking it. Often we will be on the way to somewhere and I will realise that I haven't done, or finished, my makeup and need to do it in a car. I'm a fan of good in-car makeup. Don't panic, DH is driving.

To reiterate something I said up there ⬆️ I am probably looking for something nearer to tinted skincare than a foundation. Though I would like all ideas about any successful tinted foundation products.

Thank you ☺️

Typology have a skin tint that is much closer to skincare than makeup. The lightest one looks like it would be excellent for cool skin tones.

I feel like a bit of a fraud suggesting this though as I haven't bought it - I was incredibly close to doing so but then I tried the No 7 Hydraluminous Aqua release Skin Perfector and I'm probably not going to ever buy anything else - unless they discontinue it of course. Always a risk.

fathertedcraggyisland · 30/01/2025 17:53

@ScrambledSmegs next time I'm near a Boots I'm going to try the No 7.
A few years ago, when Typology was very new, I tried some of their skincare products... and was very allergic to them (I am allergic to all fish, molluscs, crustaceans).
If Typology have taken the fish out I will give it another try. I gave my products to my cousin who loved them and they were great for her skin.

By coincidence I have just received a Saie Glowy Super Gel in a Cult Beauty edit. It's not something I would have chosen, though it does have the faintest tint. Now I'm going to look at the rest of the Saie range to see whether there is anything with a little more colour.

BTW I'll try a few before I settle on the one.

fathertedcraggyisland · 30/01/2025 17:56

@ScrambledSmegs have just checked & Typology is vegan now. Excellent, thank you ☺️

If your skin is clear and you just want 'colour' rather than coverage, would you try maybe a cream bronzer instead of an all over product? I don't wear foundation of any kind any more, just spot conceal where needed and then bronzer/blush. If you are oily then the Hourglass bronzers and powders are really nice, or the By Terry. I like the Huda Tantour cream bronzer too, it's very highly pigmented so you need to take it easy, but it blends really nicely and looks natural.

Yes it is a foundation but super light and just perks you up. Lovely stuff.

fathertedcraggyisland · 31/01/2025 21:41

@LoafofSellotape thank you for clarifying the details of the Elf tint.

Bronzer could be a good idea @emsyj37 unfortunately, being pale and cool toned makes many bronzers look orangey on me.
Huda skew very orange/yellow/olive, which makes perfect sense as their target market is Middle Eastern.
By Terry products are good IMO, though the shade range is limited.
I'll definitely look at the Hourglass bronzers as I know they cater to people of my complexion - thank you ☺️

Britpopbaby · 01/02/2025 14:14

@fathertedcraggyisland I am using the shade T2 in the LE Skin tint. I’d describe my complexion as English rose.

Mycloud · 01/02/2025 15:02

Have you tried NARS Tinted Moisturiser? It’s more of a light foundation than actual moisturiser but comes in lots of shades. I have pale skin, but not ivory, and have wasted money in the past on foundations that are light enough in shade but have a yellow tinge to them. This one is perfect for me. I use the shade Terre-Neuve Light 0.

dragonbreaths · 01/02/2025 15:09

I'm very cool, and like the Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser in cameo. the best foundation I've used is the Georgio Armani Luminous Silk in 3.75. be careful of you but this as their numbering doesn't follow logic

Kerryb79 · 01/02/2025 15:17

Glossier skin tint is the best I have used.

fathertedcraggyisland · 02/02/2025 18:01

Thank you @Britpopbaby it helps to know which shade to go for.
Think I said upthread, I have a Lisa Eldridge skin tint, it's ok. A 3 or 4 out of 5 on me. That said I'm going to give it another try and maybe order another shade if I need to 😊

Yes I have it in a couple of shades @Mycloud as my skin skews from definitely pale at this time of year to medium in summer. I like the NARS very much, though I was hoping for something with lighter coverage this time, I mean I may not find a better, lighter coverage but a girl can dream 😆

Thank you @dragonbreaths I have three of the smaller tubes of Laura Mercier too, I think I bought them on offer. I really like the texture and appreciate the ranges containing SPF, though somehow none of the shades are right.

Like the Lisa Eldridge and Nars, the LM was one I have planned to have a play around with to see whether I can make them work for me somehow e.g applying powder on top, or lightly contouring underneath. As some of these products are watery, while others are thicker and more like foundation.

Thank you @Kerryb79 do you buy them directly from Glossier? Or another place?

MoodEnhancer · 02/02/2025 18:10

Not sure about your specific tone, but I really love Chantacaille Just Skin tinted moisturiser. And they have a huge range of shades.

fathertedcraggyisland · 02/02/2025 19:17

As a result of this thread and it needed doing I have sorted through my existing tinted moisturisers, got some back from DCs that they were borrowing and purchased some. Currently I have:

• Rare Beauty.
• Hourglass.
Wrote about both in my OP.
• NARS Tinted Moisturisers inc. SPF in 3 shades.
• Laura Mercier 3 tubes, 3 different colours, 2 different types. Found this blotchy to apply previously, may have been my SPF.
• ByTerry Click Stick definitely a light foundation, is a good colour match and can be blended out so will try again with them.
• Lumene skin tint. Will try it with SPF.
• Kiko Milano festival glow also smart radiance cream, don't know what either is like because DC whipped them before I had a try 🫤
• LYS Triple Fix Serum Foundation. DC took this one too, suspect it may be thicker than I am looking for.
• Ilia skin tint.
• Guerlain Abeille Royale. Mainly an SPF, doesn't look like much coverage, is slightly tinted.
• 2 tubes Glowish by Huda multidew skin tint.
• 3 x Lisa Eldridge skin tint 2 rescued from DC found it watery, will try it with other products.
• New Charlotte Tilbury Foundation Stick.
• New Charlotte Tilbury Healthy Glow.
• New BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturiser
• Paula's Choice Wrinkle Defence - thick though is an SPF with a slight tint, liked it on holiday, will try it again.

Also have 7 (7!) Bottles and tubes of Saie or Verso glow, in different colours. They arrived back from a DC. I got all of them in free gifts I am the OG free gift maven
Don't think any of them are necessarily much more than sparkle, will be good to add to other products for adding glow and dimension.

Appreciate that this is a lot, will find what works for me. DCs + their mates will fall on the rest hungrily.

Definitely going to buy once I have reduced my existing haul:

Typology
No 7 Hydrathingy
By Aimee

Want to try:

U Beauty
Armani Luminous Silk
Chantecaille
Elf tint
Glossier

Would anyone like me to come back when I can tell you what works & what doesn't?

Not sure if you’re still looking for recommendations but I have a similar skin tone and love Pixi’s h2o skin tint.

Agree it's light and you only need a little, it mix it with my daily moisturiser so it's more of a skin care with slight tint.

youngestisapsycho · 02/02/2025 20:13

I use Eborian cc cream which is a tinted moisturer. Goes on nice, only need a little bit.
